A VERY FEW OF THE MANY
THINGS DONE WITH YOUR
CHEST CONTRIBUTIONS
LAST YEAR
A letter recently appeared in the
Public Pulse column of the Omaha
Worll-Herald concerning the cur
rent Corrjmunity Chest Drive in O
maha- The letter asked for inform
ation as to how the money donated
is to be used and what the various
agencies operating with Community
Chest funds actually do.
We, the undersigned, believe that
the letter is deserving of a public
reply because it asks a fair ques
tion
Space does not permit a complete
resume of all of the many errands
of mercy on which your Community
Chest dollars are sent- A pamphlet
giving full details, is being distri
buted to every home in Omaha- Here
however, are a very few of the many
things done with your Community:
Chest dollars during the past year:
The provided 198,216 days care
for dependent and neglected Omaha
children, through such fine agencies
as the Child Saving Institute, the
Child Welfare Association, and th
Nebraska Children's Home Society.
They provided recreation for 92,
148 Omahans monthly at various
community centers, including the
Omaha \ outh Centers, Inc-, whose ■
350 average nightly attendance by i
young teen-agers helped a great
deal to combat juvenile delinquency.
They provided 73,017 days care
for Omaha's aged and those suffer
ing from chronic and incurable dis
eases at such recognized agencies
as the Fontenelle Boulevard Home
and the Immanuel Homes for Aged
and Invalids -
They helped ease the suffering of
untold thousands of homeless ref
ugees in Czechoslovakia, France,
Holland, Greece, Norway and other
war-devastated countries of Eur
ope
Last month, Omaha’s USO serv
ed 27-000 servicemen- With the end
of the war, the needs of the USO
have grown greater, not less- Since
V-J Day, the work of the USO has
been vuadrupled, at the request ot
the Armed Forces, to help maintain

morale- During the coming year,
the Chest has allotted approximately
one-third to the vJSO, the War Re

For those who have . . for those
who died in far--off, lonely places .
for those who will, by the grace of
