STIMULATING TRADE WITH AMERICAS
DAVENPORT, IA. — United
States industry is preparing to
emulate in a business way the
“good neighbor” activity of our
diplomats in the countries south of
Dur border. <a>
As in the case of the diplomats,
the business men will use as a
major instrument of commercial
penetration, the 16 millimeter
sound motion picture which ha3
proved its power to win friends for
Uncle Sam. During the past four
years the office of Coordinator of
Inter-American Affairs has sent
hundreds of J6 mm projectors,
portable screens and innumerable
sound films all over the Americas
to promote friendlier relations. ^
♦ In the past we have failed to
realize more than a fraction of the
business potential in those coun
tries with their markets for our
goods and services. Literally thou
sands of our business establish
ments are now making plans for a
vigorous effort to win a bigger
share of the buying power now
higher than ever before. Motion
pictures loom large in the plans,
for in themselves they speak a uni
versal language, and possess the
added advantage of having the
language of a particular country or
the dialect of a particular section,
dubbed in on the sound track
Our employment and prosperity
after the war will be materially
affected by our ability to exploit
these rich markets so close to
home, and the 16 mm sound mo
tion picture will be depended up
on to create a desire for the goods
we have to sell
