Big Delicious £ Serving Meat Loaf
--Only 5 Points!
When it comes right down to it, the one great standby point
“stretcher” is a bier, tender, tasty meat loaf. And this Oatmeal meat
loaf shrinks less in cooking than other types of meat, too.
That’s why it is particularly timely to find a recipe that not only
makes red points go farther but is unusually delicious and nutritious.
This meat loaf uses only 1% pounds of meat—5 red points as we
go to press—yet it yields 8 generous servings!
It is unusually nutritious because the “stretcher” is oatmeal,
richest of all the cereals in the main element of meat, Protein. So,
by using oatmeal, you actually reinforce the family’s supply of this
element so vital for normal growth and stamina.
That’s a comforting thought—but the main reason you’ll like this
loaf is because it is so good. The nut-like whole-grain flavor adds a
lot to the taste, and the oatmeal helps make a loaf of good, firm tex
ture. And it’s so easy to use rolled oats right from the package.
Use the basic recipe, or your family may like one of the varia
tions suggested below.
BASIC MEAT LOAF RECIPE
(8 Servings)
1^4 pounds ground beef chuck 2*4 teaspoons salt'
^4 pound ground pork >4 teaspoon pepper
>4 cup onion, cut fine . 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 cup rolled oats (quick or 1 beaten egg
regular type, uncooked) 1 cup milk-or water
METHOD: Combine all ingredients thoroughly and pack firmly into,
a loaf pan. Bake in a moderate oven (375° F.) for 1 hour. m
VARIATIONS: All beef may be used. Add another % cup onion and
V2 cup coarsely chopped green pepper; or *4 cup catsup; or 1 table
spoon Worcestershire Sauce; or a dash of poultry seasoning, thyme,
K.uvorv or savs.

Basic Black Dress -
NOTHING in your wardrobe is
as useful as a simple black dress
which you can vary with a change
of neckwear and jewelry. Choose
figure-flattering lines, a simple neck

in this black rayon crepe frock. If
you want a “basic” dress that will
stand up to seasons of cleaning and
wearing, look for a factual label on
the fabric telling you it has passed
laboratory dry cleaning and wear
