The governor's personal letter to
"give these boys the patient, skill
ful and understanding care they

to his recent proclamation declar
ing a state of emeregncy in Nebras
ka until the state enlists its min
imum quota of four platoons dur
ing the WAC 'Purple Heart" cam
paign. The women will care for
sick and wounded soldiers at Fitz
simons General hospital, Denver,
Colorado.
“Women who serve in hospitals
have a special place in the hearts of
all of us—especially the soldiers
they serve.” Governor Griswold
wrote the women. “The art of heal
ing bodies and minds has always re
quired a woman's touch. (In army
hospitals) women like yourself are
feeding the helpless, seeing for the
sightless, writing letters for the
armless, keeping medical care rec
ords.a multitude of things a
woman does better than a man.
"You’ll receive invaluable train
ing, a chance to develop your skill
for a post-war career, and a pref
erence in post-W'ap opportunities",
he said.

will be sent to Fort Oglethorpe,
(la, for basic training, then to an

for six weeks. After this training

In Gentile ears they've steadily
whispered. that our enemies are
the Jews

They would set the Negroes a

They know that class and relig

Those whispers you hear are

ifications demanded by the Nebr
aska liquir control act for all who
are licensed to retail alcoholic bev
erages in this state is requested in
a leter sent to mayors and council
men this week by State Director
Charles E. Sandall of the Nebraska
Committee, United States Brewers
Foundation.
Noting that new and renewal ap
plications for the license year be
ginning May 1 soon will be receiv
ed by local governing bodies, Mr.
Sandall writes that "passing upon
these applications is an important
matter, both to your community
and to the brewing industry." He
declares "the brewing industry de
sires that licenses be granted only
to those who hy their past records
have shown a proper regard for
public interest, and the desire and
ability to comply with the law in
every respect.”
Mr. Sandall calls special atten
tion ti Sections 27, 28, and 99 of the
liquor control act, dealing with
beer retailer qualifications, and
concludes, “Strict adherence to
these provisions, and strict enforce
ment of all provisions of the law
after licenses ape issued will give
this state the soundest method of
handling alcoholic beverages, and
will aid in the promotion of the
health, safety, and welfare of the
citizens of this state. To this end
the Nebraska Committee stands
pledged to render support and as
sistance.”

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 8 tablespoons water
1 cup sugar 3 eggs and 1 egg yolk, unbeaten
2 teaspoons baking powder 1 egg white, beaten with I tablespoon
15,2 teaspoons salt water
1 cup Spry
I tablespoon grated orange rind
Step 1. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into mixing bowl.
... Drop in Spry and grated orange rind.
Step 2. Add water, 3 eggs and 1 egg yolk, and beat 150 strokes.
Spread batter in 14 x 9-inch Spry-coated pan and pour egg-white mix
ture over batter. Sprinkle with Crumble Topping and bake in hot oven
(400° F.) 30-40 minutes.
Crumble Topping: Mix 3 tablespoons flour, 6 tablespoons sugar and 1
teaspoon cinnamon together. Cut in 3 tablespooDs Spry. Add Mi cup nuts.
