Throws Supports Behind
‘Purple Heart’ Campaign
Lincoln- Nebr-, Feb. 14 (Special)
Governor Dwight Griswold, acting
as chairman of the Nebraska Advis
ory Defense Committee- on Valentine
day threw the full support of the
committee's Victory Speakers Bur
eau behind the “Purple Heart Cam
paign” for recruitment oi Nebraska
women to serve as medical and sur
gical assistants at Fitzsimons Gener
al hospital, Denver, Colo.
The chief executive Wednesday
announced the new assistance in se
curing Nebraska's quota of badly
needed medical technicians at army
hospitals following a conference
with E. F. Carter, Nebraska state
supreme court justice and state chair
man of the Speakers’ Bureau, where
it was pointed out that the nation’s
wounded is returning from battle
fronts at the rate of 30,000 monthly.
Judge Carter immediately sent let
ters to the 1,200 Victory Speakers in
the state suggesting that local clubs
and similar organizations be con
tacted “with a view of addressing
them briefly” because the need is ur
gent if our wounded are to receive
the care which we as a nation owe

The supreme court judge’s letter
went on to say: “We must not per
mit ourselves to be lulled into a
sense of irresponsibility by the fav
orabel war news we are now receiv
ing- Victories often come at a tre
menous cost in casualties. The goal
line stand of the Nazis may be the
most costly and difficult of all, a
fact which all the more impresses
the importance of the Purple Heart
drive.Surely there can be no
more patriotic duty than to save
and rehabilitate the boys who risked
everything and sacrificed much that
you and I might continue to enjoy
freedom, safety and peace.”

V With Its Nervous
Trod Feelings?
At such times—if you
suffer from cramps,
backache, feel tired,
nervous, restless, a
bit moody—all due
to functional perl- /
.odlc disturbances—
Governor Griswold recently gave
assurance to Major General C- H.
Danielson- commanding general of
the Seventh Service Command, that
Nebraska mould furnish at least
four platoons of the badly needed
women technicians for Fitzsimons
General hospital in the 90-day cam
paign that yegan Feb- 1. The first
platoon of Nebraska women will be
enlisted in honor of the One Hund
red Thirty-Fourth Infantry Regi
ment, “Nebraska’s Own-”
While recruiting emphasis will be
placed on the enlistment of women
for the medical units during the
next two months, recruitment of
Wacs for other urgently needed war
jobs with the Army Air, Ground
and Service Forces will continue
without interruption, Major Frank
V. Kent, commanding officer of the
Nebraska WAC recruiting district,
in Omaha- emphasized.
