The Paxton Hotel waiters arc quick stepping on service with a smile these days. The Regis Hotel and White Horse Inn waiters are always out in trout. The Waiters at the Hill Hotel are on the up and go. The Blackstone Hotel waiters are on the go with a smile. The Musician headwaiter and the streamlined crew at the Chamber of Commerce are quick serving at all times This writer was in Kansas City, Mo-/' January 6 and 7, and it was a very lovely visit with quite a num ber of friends and of course .there is always one very special lady friend who was in the picture and later on there will be some name changing! Rumor has it that a certain front doorman and a very fine and popular north side young lady, will walk down the center aisle. THE WEEK This writer had a very pleasant visit with the editor of the Kansas City Call Saturday, June 6th and we were made welcome and the very busy office force was giving close attention to minute details and im portant duties which goes into the production of a great newspaper A newspaper that will interest the public and we tried to see if we could pick up some of the improve ments and ideas which were being used -successfully- We shall always think very kindly of the very friend ly welcome which was extended Orchids to the KC Call! PASTOR BEATEN ON FACE HEAD; TOLD TO KEEP QUIET Dr. Long of Beale St. Baptist Attacked Night of Dec• 19th (by Paul Fairleigh) . (from the Memphis Press Scimitar Newspaper). DC G- A- Long- pastor of the Beak- Street First Baptist Church, Memphis, Tenn., was attacked and severely beaten about the face and head on th.e night of Dec. 19, The Press-Scimitar learned today The minister told a reporter he re ceived a bruised eye and temple in juries when attacked by two unident ified Negroes as he w’as attempting to close his garage doors at his home 332 Vance. He said he reported the matter to police and that the officers request ed him to make “no mention’’ of the slugging to friends or relatives. A reporter heard of the incident from, another source and asked Dr- Long about it “The two men stepped from behind 1 the left door of my garage as I at tempted to close the door,’’ Dr. Long said. “Without a word they started slugging me in the face and head After I was knocked down they fled. No words were exchanged at any time.” The minister said a description of the attackers tallies with that of two one tall and one short. Negroes who kept prominent Negro Republicans dodging them last summer- Lt- Geo. W. Lee. who was knifed on the head the night of the day he was chosen alternate at large to the National Republican Convention. Dr. Roy Love, pastor of the Mount Ncbo Baptist Church, also had a near attack as he raced to his car and escaped two Negroes who chased him Benjamin Bell, former secretary of the Urban League, was attacked by the two “sluggers” early last sum mer. Dr- Long, who has- on more than one occasion, stood his ground in bouts with the Shelby, County pol itical leaders, opened his church to A- Philip Randolph, president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (AFL), who made a speech last March. A similar meeting at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church had been scheduled when a meeting of Negroes was call ed at the County Jail, and officials advised them not to hold the meeting. “1 am not saying who I think made the attack on me, but I agree with Lt. Lee it was probably the same men who attacked him-’- Dr. Long said “My Republican interests could easily have been back of the attack” Several days after the AFL meet ing, Dr. Long said he was notified by the Fire and Police Commission that the Beale-Street Church was un safe, and rewiring and other improve mints were needed- He said all the requests were complied with at the cost of $5000. “I did not til the newspapers of the attack made on me at the time be cause I wanted to cooperate with the police in tfieir request I keep quiet,” Dr Long said. Washington, (PPNS) Going into immediate action on his pledge of fighting the people’s battle before the House of Congress- Congressman William L. Dawson of Illinois stat ed before the house Thursday- Jan uary 4, 19b5 that establishment of a permanent Fair Employment Prac tice Committee bill is essential to the “fulfillment of the biggest ideals of our democracy.” The statement of the militant leader on the reintroduc tion of his bill for a permanent FE PC follows: i “The events of the pats few mon-. ths have shown beyond any question | of argument the necessity of utilizing every bit of manpower, knowledge and skill at our command in order to save the lives of thousands of our boys and girls. The lagging in pro duction of necessary war essentials must necessarily be reflected in delay in final victory accompanied by an in crease in casualties “We on the home front should leave no stone unturned to assure the utilization of every American citizen in all our efforts to bring this war to a speedy close.
