Moylan, S. J.) Christmas means, for many, a jovial, friendly at mosphere in which they are privileged to bask for a few days; and then it’s the drab, old dreary world for them, again. Others let the warmth of approach ing Christmas thaw their hardened hearts; and a sorrow for past sins prepares the way for something new to enter their lives on Christmas Day—a ‘peace pact’ is made with their God, and the joy of it car ries into the future, ofttimes eve nunto life eternal. For yet another some, the coming of Christmas means only an intensifying of an already deep-lying joy, the joy of a good life, a peace-pact long adhered to. Now, from this, it appears that Christmas means the gentle approach of God to man—to sinful men, that, with the out-stretched arms of a little infant, He might lure them from the ways of sin, and estab lish His peace in their hearts,—and to faithful souls, that He might be their Way, their Truth, and their Life. It is peace with God that gives joy to the human eh art; and it is this peace of mind ' and heart for which man really longs; even though the world may hold him enthralled by its endless, deceitful promis es of full satisfaction. Now, in the words of the great African philosoph er, Saint Augustine, “Peace is the tranquillity of order”. Hence, peace of mind comes from the tran quillity of right order in our human lives. And \\ hat is right order in human life, we learn from a thoughtful, prayerful contemplation of the ways and actions of Our Saviour; for He is our God mani festing His divine perfection to us in human form. We must watch Him and model our ways on His. Then peace will pervade our lives. Anil, if all men were thus to model their lives, the “tranquillity of order” which is peace, would reign supreme in this world of ours. 1944 ' TO EVERYBODY . ’ There’s a joy in the J heart k That sets Christmas apart, 1 To make it a day of all days. j And may its tme peace | And igood will never cease To bless you in mani fold ways.
