greatest of women blues singers,
Jersey-born Miss Rhapsody, is look
ing for a new day in her profession.
For right now, the race conscious
lady freezes when people “type" fern
blues singers as vulgar, cheap, cuss
ing pistol packin' mamas who live the
lives offstage of the women they sing
about.
She hopes that presently the public
will give an artist her recognition
when she chirps blue notes ^ at the !
mike and let her walk off the stage!

just sang.
“Of course, part of the fault lies
not only on the public, but on the art

Rhapsody feels the blues; . .she's

will eventually get into show business
At home, blue notes disappear for
gaiety. Rhapsody insists she ran out

| own gowns for stage wear. Her lat
\ est is a black sequined number and
she put on each sequote herself
Miss Rhapsody lit a cigarette Ashe
rarely smokes- and talked about her
new records “Bye, Bye Baby Blues"
and “My Lucky Day” both written by
her.
Then, quite by accident, she gave
us a clue to her fuccess- She gets
blue in spirit when singing the blues:
her tones are sad and her eyes clos
ed- She thinks of herself as a ser
vant to her public, trying to satisfy
their hunger for her kind of music.
And, from what we concluded, she
pleases them!
