FIRST MISSION OF THE GOD SENT LIGHT Saturday, November 18th, 1944, we will be entertained with a comb:nat ion of refreshments and messages giv en by ‘he Three Loving Sisters, mem bcrs of the First Mission of the God Sent L ebt in our church home 2734 Blondo street. The other evening at an informal buffet supper I saw “in action” th< very special convenience of a nest: of-tables. In this home there wer< a pair of these very decorative pieces on either side of the fire place. As time for refreshments arrived, I noticed there were still no signs of a table being set, although there were eight to be served, and there was plenty of evidence of activity in the kitchen. The husband appeared with a big tray. This he set on the low cock tail table. And in a twinkling he moved out the two smaller tables from each of the “nests,” placin'* these conveniently by the chairs the guests were occupying. Then the hostess came from the kitchen with a -steaming percolator of coffee and a huge platter of sandwiches. When these were passed, each guest shar ed with another the use of one of the small tables from the nest. It all took place quickly, easily, and graciously. I realized more itrongly than ever why in the re cent survey of Imperial Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, nests of-tables were third in popularity among all types of tables. Since that evening I have been talking with some of my friends who have bests-of-tables in their homes, to tarn other uses to which they are being put....^ One woman, who has two high bchool age children, finds that the use of nests solves the problem of [ small desk for doing home work, knd she herself uses one for writ letters. Another uses one of the lests for sewing. And, of course, br bridge parties nests really shine, fou can put a small table on dia fonal corners for ash trays, drinks, ind even score pads, keeping the ■rd table clear for playing. Also on Slnday afternoon at 3 pm. November 12th, 1944 special services will be conducted in our church home by Rev. S- K. Nichols, pastor of the Church of the Living God. Other celebrities will also participate in the program. The public is welcome All nations are welcome at all times. Services are held Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, at 8 pm. Prophet Hess is pastor. BAB 4 By Lillian B. Storms All babies are not alike; they arc individuals. They do not all reach the stage in their developmenl when they want to feed themselves at anywhere near the same age. Ii your child shows signs of wanting to hold his own cup or spoon, lej him think he is holding it himself As soon as possible, let him do ij all without your help. Even after he starts feeding bim; self there will be a good manj times — perhaps for weeks — when he will need help toward the end of the meal. Or he may get tired of doing it himself or just be bored and want you to feed him foi sev; eral meals. It may save your time and avoid a mess to do the feeding yourself, But the mess has to come some time because he has to learn to feed himself. Your child will er.joj learning to eat by his own efforts, if you let him do it when he is in terested. Should you let that time pass, then you will find yourself trying to get him to do something [ in which he is not at that time in terested. As your child grows, you will have the joy of watching the changed which are constantly taking place. It is not necessary to forego disci pline but it is much easier to main tain discipline if you u^e you* child’s developing personality to guide him and thus keep him in: terested in doing what you want j him to do. When he starts to feed himself, make things as easy for him as you can. A curved-handled baby spoon may be easier for him to handle , than the regulation teaspoon. Usu ally a small cup and preferably one with a lip will fit baby’s mouth better. The first foods he feeds himself should be the thick ones, not the more liquid. If his strained vege table will fall off the spoon easily, thicken it with some of his cereal. Btrained fruit that is too thin can be thickened with some of his cer eal as this will help it hold to the kDoon.
