All servicemen and women who visit the Clubmobile are guests of the drive’s general chairman, Linn P. Campbell, and coffee and doughnuts are being served to them by USO volunteer workers. A radio broad cast at 12:30 o’clock daily over sta tion KOWH, “Hello from the USO” includes interveiws with servicemen and women, visiting the Clubmobile. The increasing Federal taxes they have been paying reflect the need of our government for funds to pay the mounting costs of war. Our Company’s recent tax history is a good example of the big part private electric utilities have taken toward paying those costs. In 1937, we paid a Federal tax bill of $477,249. For the year 1943, just six years later, that figure rose 107% to nearly one million dollars. And our total tax bill—local and Federal_paid in 1943, was nearly two million dollars.
