PREACHES A STIRRING SERMON In his initial appearance before a Union Service audience, Reverend T. J. Douglass, pastor Of Cleave0, Temple CME. Church preached as even hie own Congregatios hadn't until last Sunday night heard him preach. There were an audience numbering over 700 at Zion Bap tist Church to hear him, and there were just that many left at thj end of the services seemingly convinc ed that another sterling Man of God had been sent to Omaha. The Cleaves Temple Choir Per formed its part of the service quite capably and the solo numbers were well received by tbe audience, as well as the numbers by the choir. Union Service Sunday Jan. 23rd will be at St. Johns AME. Church. Reverend F. C. Williams will be the speaker and his choir will 'orn ish the music. GAVE SURPRISE PARTY A surprise party was given in honor of Prophet Hess Sunday, January 9th by Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Irwin and Mrs. Brown. It was given at the .home of Sirs. Store-, who pastored Cleaves Tem ple CME. church for five years until a few months ago, was in town Sunday and attended morn ing service. All her friends were delighted over having her present and at the end of the services there was much handshaking and other gestures of friendship be tween them and her. She is here to visit her niece, Miss Ophelia Story who works at the Martin Bomber plant and did not leave Omtaa when ’the Rever end and Mrs. Store- left. In a short talk t othe cong-ega tion Mrs. Story expressed her pleasure over being again in the city, and made similar remarks in •the evening at the close of the Union Services, held at Zion Bap tist Church with Reverend T J. Douglass and his choir in charge. Mrs. Story graciously accepted a lequest that she play for thi choir and nc doubt it was her presence and affiiation that made it sing as well as it did. Mrs. Story has traveled consid erably since leaving Omaha She stated that she has tt.rd visits to ah the former pastorate* of her husband, excepting the one in Dcn: v>l, Colorado. Patrons can get their meals and sandwiches from 4 pm. until clos ng time. ***** Many of the younger set are not a leased with the ruling that will aot allow them to enter the Lounge, unless they can show proof that they are twenty-one. Although the Legion has never been in favor af ’teen agers frequenting the Post, even before the days of the Lounge this legal ruling is not of its mak ing. but that of the city officials. And in keeping ’teen agers out the Post is merely trying to obey that ruling. * **** The Post is still trying to raise its membership. USO NEWS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE I SO The USO is responsible for mak ing its services available in comm unities wh*»re a new and definite “overload” exists, brought about bv the war efergency, and one which is beyond the capacity of local re sources to meet, even with large adjustments. The USO is not or.ly a national organization which mak es services available to overburden ed communities, it is also a way through which local people and lo cal groups organize to cooperate with national USO to meet local needs. The USO has brought to gether the six National Social Work Organizations representing the three faiths' working together under one cause. These organiz ations are The Young Men's Christ ian Associations. The National Ca tholic Community Services, The Salvation Army, The Young Wom en’s Christian Associations, The Jewish Welfare Board and The Nationla Traveler’s Aid Associat on j Factors considered in determining the need for USO services are: 1. Trips have already been made to aHstings. Kearney. Ne braska. Grand Island, with the fol--j lowing proposed trips. Kearney. Jan. 18th. Fairmont Air Base. Gen eva, Neb. Jan. 28th, and Lincoln, on Feb. 4th. The trip to Kearney ; will be made the third Tuesday in every month. The group of vol unteers ary well chaperoned and make the trip in well heated buses furnished by the Union Pacific Stages.
