-- ' IIMHO PRIMARY OBJECTIVE \ IN ORGANIZING LABOR’S VOTE STATEMENT OF SIDNEY HILLMAN, CHAIRMAN, CIO POLITICAL ACTION COMM. The CIO Political Action Comm ittee has as a primary objective the organizing of labor’s vote. The Negro working man and woman | are important and necessary parts of this group. No drive of this nature, therefore, could be under taken without an awartness or this fact and a determination to make it count. If re-emphasis be necessary, we j state now that a genuine effort will j be made to win the support of the Negro trade unionist and the trad* unionists of all minority groups,, for it is with labor that minorities have their biggest stake. To this end we shall place our arguments with the Negro people in the South aa well as *n the North, and with equal vigor. The Committee knows that in “ASTROLOGY! We know that registration is not always freely permitted to many of those who pay their tax. The policy of the CIO. is unmis takably clear on the poll tax ques tion just as it is clear on the sold ier’s vote issue which affects more than a half million Negroes in arms. Mindful of all this, we say with complete assurance and con fidence that the Committee pledg es itself: 1. To urge every laboring Negro who is able to do so to pay the re quired poll tax. 2. To seek protection both for the registration of Negroes and the casting of the ballots of those who desire to exercise the right of fran chise as American citizens. 3. To ask the support and wel come the cooperation of all Negro groups and organizations whose -programs at any point parallel our own in terms of issues —and this we believe approximates 100 percent—to the end that the res pective programs may be fulfilled to the greatest degree possible. In the prosecution of this job, we shall have the constant advice nnd guidance of Willard S. Town send, President of the Uunitert Transport Service Employes of A merica, and of George L .P. The rare bird was shot by Joe W. Hicks (right), well-known Chicago public relations counsel, on his first duck hunting expedition. Naturalists describe the duck as only the second of its kind on record bagged in America during the last century. The first one was shot 24 years ago on the same lake. Photo taken in Chicago shows Mr.'Hicks pointing to the pintail-like posterior of the unusual specimen, which has set hunters and scien tists agog.
