The Legionnettes started the ball to rolling by entertaining the Le gionnaires with a luncheon Thurs day night, December 23rd. The JUncheon was well worth going to the Lounge to partake of. And thus began the activities for the Christmas week two days be fore the week actually began! ***** Christmas Day the Post gave a matinee dance from 2 pm. until •'1 pm. with music by Olivers orches tra. How the jitterbu’gs did jitter and the hepcats got ‘hep’. Every one seemed to have had a iot of fun. Shorty Glass the tallest man in the Post when others are stand ing on their knees, was master of ceremonies, or floor manager or something. Anyway he was much in evidence throughout the pro ceedings. NORTH 24TH STREET USO XMAS PARTY FEATURES ISO PROGRAM One ot the foaln-e events on the program of the Norfcn 24th St. USO Club was the Xmas Party Program held on Saturday afternoon at the Dreamland. The music for the oc casion was directed by Charles Washington, assisted at the piano by Miss Starlett Petersen The re sponsive reading from The Spirit of Xmas was led by Corporal Jesse James of Fort Crook. A vor.al by Charles Washington and the sing ing of Xmas Carols added to the spirit of the occasion. ***** XMAS FORMAL WELL ATTENDED The Xmas Formal for service men and their friends was well at tended on Xmas night by over 700 persons, who danced to the strains ox Bobbit Hall and his orchestra. Pictures were taken of the affair to be plac- j i rd in the USO Picture Book. ***** i CITIZENS REMEMBER SERVICE MEN The citizens of Omaha were very thoughtful of the service men at Xmas time and went all out in at tempting to keep the Spirit of Xmas alive among the service men. A large number of them shared in the home hospitality program through the Churches, presents were presented to a large number and the following refreshments and gifts were given to the USO Cookies furnished by the War Mothers, Mrs. Eliza Forrest pres ident and Mrs. Jesse Oglesby, Sec retary. Cigarettes by Mrs. Mary Alice! Grant, cakes and cookies by M-s. Olive Davis and a long distance call home by Mr. M. M. Weakiand. The men appreciate the thought fulness and interest which the cit izens of Omaha are taking in mak-. ing them feel art home while they I are away from home. (The master stayed soused most of the time The only reason he I ever sobered up was simply to get a thrill ou’t of getting sous ed again.) He was fast asleep on the bed room floor When his no good son swayed thrugh the front dor. One look at him would have given one the chills, He was liquored up right; He was soused to the gills. (Folks in the know said that when he was six months old he swip ed some liquor from his dad and he he wuld nurse nthing but a liquor bottle from that time on.) The son tried to make it to an overstaffed chair, But when he sat down, it just wasn’t there! HLs auntie who saw him shook sadly her head. Swiped from him his bottle and went back to bed. (She didn’t indulge often; but when she did by the time she took a bottle from her moutn all that was left in it was air!) Before the soused son could re gain his composure. To his bleary eyes came an amaz ing disclosure, He rubbed them and rubbed them —made sure he saw right. As so many strange sights they had witnessed that night. (One of them was closed from striking itself against the fist of a man in the last night spot he had been thrown out of) Before him were feet ‘neath the library table, And he couldn’t remember h*s bringing home Maybel.
