handed, but capable, and glamorous
—enough to grace any mess hall—
Sgt. Wallace is the only daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Wallace,
of Monmouth.

of Cleaves Temple announced his
departure for his home in Nash
ville. Tcnn., to spent the "Holi
days” with his family in that city.
He also announced that he had se
cured the services of Dr. L. E. B.
Rosser, the presiding cider, to
come from Kansas City to fill the1
pulpit at Cleaves Temple or. ‘Walehi
J Night” and the following Sunday,
j Dr. Rosser is well known in Ora
iaba He will deliver ths sermon
and administer the Communion on
the first Sunday in January. The
■ Cleaves Temple congregation will
| join the Union Services for the
| first Sunday night. All of the
members of Cleaves Temple are
urged to attend these services

POSITION AT BENNETT
COLLEGE
Miss Velma Leigh Thomas, dau
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Thomas of 3022 Corby street, has
received a teaching and secretarial
position at Bennett College in
Greensboro, North Carolina. She
was a graduate from the Univers-,
tty of Omaha in May, 1943, where
she received her Bachelor of Sci
ence deg-ree in Business Adminis
tration with a minor in Commer-i
cial Education. She received,
some experience as a practical tea
cher at Howard Kennedy school.

Wac’s Pinup Boy
Duke Ellington, the world’s greatest com
poser of jazz, semi-classics and symphonic-swing
arrangements was selected to the position of “pin-up
biy” of the yar by the WACs of Fort Desmoines, ac
coring to Captain Loretta Freeman, who recently
left the aobve camp for dutis as recruiting officer
in Chicago. Captain Freeman said that pin-up
judges which included Lt. Catherine Godfrey of the
WACs at Desmoines said that it was high time a
pin up biy was selected from their quarters and that
Duke was chosen by a 20 to 1 vote. Mr. Ellington
and band played a concert engagement on Sunday,
Dec. 18, at the Civic Opera House in the Windy
City. WACs as well as ither women from miles a
round crowded out many male fans.
