Esther Hicks, Omaha’s only color
ed first aid army nurse, had the
opportunity to administer first aid
treatment to Commander J. C.
Carey of Roosevelt Post No. SO,
with her electric vibrator. The
treatment left him feeling much
rel eved. She hopes to have Vmi
back on his job Tuesday.
Sunday, Dec. 12th—Mr. Carey is
now able to sit up.

I stood at the bar, Shorty Glass
stood behind it. All was quiet. I
was waiting for Shorty to do some
thing. He was waiting for me to
lay down something for him to do
with. Dr. James was in the office.
He came out of the office and
stood at the foot of the bar. That
made two of us standing at the
bar—and Shory Glass behind it
All was quiet.
Dr. James put his hand in his
pocket. I took hope—and don’t
for the life of me know why. Dr.
James took his hand out of his
pocket and laid a dime on the ba’\
Wearily, (he’s always tired,) Shorty
handed him a bottle of beer then
resumed his position befort me
with his arms resting on the bar.
“Hill,” began James, taking a
sip from his bottle,
“Now don’t start that Janies!” I
interrupted crossly.
“Start what?” he asked.
“I know just as well what you
are thinking about as though you
had said it,” I replied.
“What Hill?” put in Shorty.
Then without allowing me time to
answer him went on, “Say Hill,
don’t forget this week to tell the
public.
“Oh so you a;c like that too,
eh?” I snarled
“Like What?” he asked mystified
“Are you nuts?”
“No, but I will be if anyone else
tries to tell me what to say in
this Peek’s Legion Sidelites.” I
shot back, just as Earl Thomas en
tered.
He greeted Us gaily, (not know
ing that no one was putting out
anything!) then turning t° me said
“Don't forget that the OMAHA
