MURIEL RAHN CONCERT AIDS GIRINS St. Louis, Sept. 7th:—The St. Louis YWCA, through its Branch Executive, Mrs. Anna Lee Scott, announced in a letter to Dick Campbell, New York Concert Man ager, that more than forty young women had been granted summer vacations at Camp Derrieotte near here as a result of funds accrued through presentation of Muriel Rahn, New York soprano, in a re cital here last May 14th. Miss Rahn was presented in in interracial concert by the St. Lou is “Y” purely as a cultural contri bution to better race relations, and not to make money. The concert however, proved such a financial success that the Committee found itself with several hundred dollars on its hands afterwards. It finally decided to use the money for sum mer vacations for underprivileged young women of the city. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he explained: "I’ll be j gone about eighteen months—six j months in Africa, six months in India, Six months in China. I don’t even want to try to see the glamour people, the folks who are running things. I couldn’t add a thing, I believe, to what has been said about them. But I mean to find out what the working people expect, and what they are hoping for. RALPH BATES MARCHING CLUB NO. 367 The Ralph Bates Marching Club No. 367 hied election of Officers Tuesday September 7, 1943. The Club elected an entire new staff. Officers elected were: Herbrt Rich ardson, Prsident, Ernest Richie, Treasurer, Charles Simms, Secre tary, Business meeting was con ducted and the Exalted Ruler. Charles Davis made a visit with many members present. He gave the group a wonderful lecture and pep talk. All enjoyed his visit. ***** Daughter Ruler Clara Campbell returned from the East after vis iting Grand Lodge in Pittsburgh. She returned with a fine report for Bhe was kept busy while attending sessions in the Grand Lodge. She also made visits and stops in Chi cago, Detroit, and Cleveland. I iried to Mayo Clark S 2v Sailor from the Naval Ammunition Depot, Hastings, Nebraska, last week. On Thursday Sept. 9, we had a convoy of 82 soldiers from Brunn ing, Nebraska. Saturday ,Sept. 11, a convoy of 175 sailors from Hastings, Nebr. 24 soldiers from Harvard, Nebr., and 20 soldiers from Grand Island, Ne braska. On Tuesday Sept. 7.th the USO. started to open daily from 12 noon to 11 pm. Pfc and Mrs. Milton Deslie the USO’s first bride and groom, were the week end guest. Miss Helen Price is offering her service as Acting Secy to Mrs. Reese. The Gold Service Pine were a warded to all members of the exe cutive board at the last meeting. Things are booming at the USO.
