PRIME MINISTER, WINSTON
CHURCHILL
(By MYRTLE M GOODLOW)
(from a newspaper clipping. “But
let us also be clear about this:
will 'hold on to its own,' he owes
When Mr. Churchill says Britain
j a definition of those words to
those who are friends and who
would tread the course that I
have indicated.”
****
We are fighting to keep our Empi-e
intact.
Was the statement hurled back
By PTime Minister Winston
Churchill—
which shocked the world.
And revealed the ugly fact—
He has no thought but one—his
kingdom.
None for the little peoples
Or the four freedoms,
IF this only is his aim.
We can understand why—
He continues to deny.
Freedom to the four hundred
million.
Held in slavery throughout his
kingdom.
Who could now be fighting side
by side.
If the gates of freedom were
opened wide.
The world lies in ruins today.
Because hatred and prejudice
had full sway,
And it is a terrific blow—
To the American Negro,
to know—
That Churchill’s government
made a statement—
That they wanted no more
NegTo American soldiers to land
On England s shores.
Because prejudice among the
southerners.
In the AEF. toward our soldiers.
Such statements as these;
Puts new tricks up the Axis
sleeves.
If the leaders of Democracy
Our faith shall keep.
They must cast aside hypocrisy
And practice what they teach.
—Or will they continue to “Sleep
On”—
In the fading dawn,
And Someday sadly find—
Their opportunity to free man
kind.
Is forever gone!
An Omaha newspaper in one of
its editorials says it is deplorable
to have such statements as filibus
ter Bilbo in the Senate.
Camp Robinson at little Rock,
Arkansas to be enlarged at a cost
of five million smackers.
War spending near six billion?,
per month. Buy more war bonds
and stamps.
