start with your hair, because the
one thing that men notice most
abont a woman Is her hair.
The right hair-do can do wonders
in correcting feature defects and
creating the illusion of a perfectly
balanced face.
For Instance, if you have a broad,
square face, find a hair style that
makes your face seem longer and
less wide. Bangs may be cute on
your slim-faced sister, but they’re
not for you. Stay clear of a short
bob with curls bunched over your
ears. Don’t wear your hair parted
In the center or flat on the top of
your head. All of these things only
tend to accentuate the broadness of
your face. The most flattering style
for you is a fairly long bob with
soft curls around your neck. This
will make your face appear longer.
Build out your top hair to corre
spond with the width of your cheek
bones and train it into a forward
roll that dips slightly on the center
of your forehead. This will break,
the square, broad line at the top.
On the other hand, if your face is
long and narrow, your problem is
to affect a hair-do that makes your
face seem shorter and wider. In
this case, the popular, high pompa
dour styles are out. Don’t go in for
severely sleek hair styles. For ex
ample, a long, straight hoh will
make your face seem longer and
narrower than it actually is. The
most becoming style for your type
is a low side part with the hair
combed flat across the top of your
head. This gives you a horizontal
line that makes your forehead
seem broader. A fairly short bob
with curls bundled out at the side
will give the lower part of your
face a wider look. Beware of plac
ing your curls too far forward on
your face.
» The right hair style can do much
to tone down other unattractive
facial features. The ones that 1
am asked about most often are a
large nose and prominent jaw, a
small chin and a receding or pro
truding forehead.
In the case of a prominent nose
and jaw, shorten the space between
your ear and chin by eliminating
waves that slant In the same di
rection as your chin. Waves should
slant np toward your forehead. To
further break the long line from the
top of your forehead to the end of
your hose, bring your hair forward
in rolls or curls over the brow.
To make a small chin look longer,
slant your waves down toward the
chin rather than up toward your
forehead. Never wear bangs or rolls
out over your brow. Comb your
hair back off your forehead and
leave it flat. This will give your
chin more prominence.
A receding or protruding fore
head %n be effectively concealed by
a downward swinging roll or bang
arrangement. Fill in the sides of
your face with soft rolls or curis.
Stay away from off-the-face styles.
• Having studied your type and de
cided on a style that suits your face,
go to a competent hairdresser and
discuss your problem with her. Tour
hair may be too thick and ur-wieidy
for the hair-do you have in rniDd.
In this case it will have to be
thinned out and properly shaped.
In closing, just one final tip—
Watch carefully how the operator
sets your hair. Notice particularly
the direction in which she winds
your curls so you will know now to
comb it later. Work on your hair
a ic tie every day —keep it brushed

Rhythm” all girl band from Lau
rence C. Jones’ Piney Woods
school in .the Capitol City of Miss
issippi—Jackson, at the Crystal
Palace Christmas Matinee and
Night drew more than a thousand
dance fans and spectators.
It was one of the times in the
history of the Crystal Palace that
the Jitterbugs were not jittery fori
