hospital.
Mrs. Eva Foster, sister of Mr.
S. Foster died at a local hospital
this week.
Mr. Arthur Newland who has
been visiting his brother, Mr. J. O.
D. Newland of 2917 Grant St., has
left for his home in Atchinson,
Kansas.
Doris Newland is in her secoud
year at Bennett College in Greens
boro, North Carolina. She hasn’t
been home since. She worked last
summer at school but will be home
this May when school is out. She
plays Bass violin in the orchestra,
and sings in the chorus under the
dirction of Nathaniel Dett. The
choir travels through the month
of April. She is majoring up in
Sociology. She is taking a teacn
ers course to. We’ll all be glal
to see Doris, when she does get
home.

ess” and was not afraid to preach
pure unadulterated gospel and
then he practiced what he preach
ed. Bible living and Bible giving
was his slogan.
They have sacrificed to make
Mt. Moriah a church that the
Community could point to with
pride and they have not failed.
They have served well and we
the members have learned to love
this man of God and his compan
ion and as they leave to go to an
other field of labor, our hearts
are burdened within us. The
church not only loses a pastor
whose value to us can never be es
timated but a loyal friend and a
true brother in Christ.
We wish for them success in
their new field and may God's
choice blessings be theirs.

The De Lisa Deb Club is now
two years old, The girls celebrat
ed their anniversary with a din
ner held at the Urban league.
Last week the club held their meet
ing at the home of their sponsor
Roberta Burch. A demonstration
of table etiquette was given. Sev
eral new members were given the
club oath at a candlelight cerem
ony. The new members are: Hen
rietta Botts, Betty Patrick and
Pasy Dean. A club code was
adoped at the last meeting. It
was written by Ruby Hubbard.

Bishop Hobson predicted that
the forthcoming Freedom Con
gress in Washington being spon
sored by the Harlem Division of
Fight. For Freedom would prove
"historic”.
“When American Negroes, who
have suffered from domestic fas
cism for so long, show that they
understand the basic issues invok
ed in the present war, the future
of this country is not as bleak as
some people paint it. The res
ponse of Negro organizations to
the Fight For Freedom appeal bar
been very encouraging.”
Plans for the Freedom Congress
are proceeding apace, Edward
White, secretary of the Harlem
Division declared in an announce
ment from Washington where be
is completing final arrangements.
Dorothy Height, secretary of
the National Council of Negro Wo
men, will be in charge of technic
al arrangements in the Capitol,
Mr. White said.
He asked .however, that inquir
ies regarding delegations be ad
dressed to national headquarters
at 1270 Sixth Avenue, New York
City. The sessions will open on
January 8 and last for two days.
