Ambition, sometimes, is, like tem
ptation, a poison plant upon which
hang flowers of flaunting beauty.
The beauty of motherhood lies in
this; that the child in a mother’s eyes
is always an innocent babe.
The outer trappings of man are
vain, indeed, for in the hearts of men
alone, God plants His Kingdom.
Men and women do look up and
hope again, even in a land of greed and

V. V. W—I was in love with a
boy back home and he didn’t pro
pose to me so I came to the city
to get work. A man here has
proposed to me but he drinks. Tell
me if I could change him and
should I accept him? I want an
Astrology Reading too
Ans: Don’t marry the man you
'have just met with the idea that
you can change his ways so eas
ily.... make him prove it before
marrying him. He certainly has
not put forth any effort to stop ;
drinking thus far. Wait awhile be |
fore you marry. You may send j
for my Astrology Reading if you
desire. The price is 25c.... I will |
advise you free on three of your
problems.
M. A. D.—I have been terribly
sick for some time. Toll me if you
think that my doctor understands
my case and do you think that I
will get to feeling better?
Ans: Your doctor is in a posi
tion to treat you for the condit’ou
you are suffering with-if he
didn’t understand your case, he
would no doubt be fair enough to
tell you so. Continue on with him
and give him a reasonable time to
bring abot a change in your condi
tion before consulting another doc
tor.
M. J. M-—I am engaged to a
young man and it seems as tho af
ter we are married, I will have to
live with his people. Now tell me
,if you think this is advisable?
Ans: No, it isn’t advisable if
there is any other plan that could
be worked out-but if that is
the only way that you two can
marry. •. .then give it considerable
thought before going ahead with
this plan. There are cases where
it works out satisfactorily but the
wife and the in-law must under
stand one another and agree to be
peaceful. Why don’t you discuss
the matter with your husband-to
be and your in-laws and see if you
can’t operate on a budget whereby
you can live separately and you
can continue to work to meet ex
penses. Work out this problem
fore you marry.
R. M. J—I am in high school
now and my ambition is to become
a nurse. My folks toll me I don’t
have enough patience to become a
nurse and I wish to know why?
Ans: As you grow older.. you
will learn to control your temper
and emotions. .. .and become more
patient and understanding. You
can try right now-and it will
take plenty of patience to be a
Good Nurse and you don’t want to
be any other kind- Finish your
thigh school training-work a
while and save a little money
then get in touch wTith the hospit
al nearest you and see if you can’t
enter training. You can do it if
you want too bad enough.
D. P—I am old and need help
and I have written my son and he
won’t write or send me any help
Why does he treat me like this ?

The Larieuse Beauty Bureau was established by the {
Godefroy Manufacturing Company to study methods
of preserving women's natural beauty, and to make
the results of this research available to the public.
Do the first golden October days
find you with a “last-rose-of-sura
mer” look? Summer can be very
hard on your complexion, your hair
and your hands, and that means
some rather intensive beauty work
to bring yourself back to normal.
This is the time to do it, for it is
time to get back into the swing of
things, time for new clothes, new
interests, a whole new you!
If you would greet autumn pretty
and well groomed from top to toe,
here are some pertinent suggestions
for repairing the damages of a lazy,
casual summer. Start with your
hair and your skin, they’re most im
portant.
First, wield your hairbrush vali
antly, brushing always up and away
from the head. A hundred strokes,
ten minutes a day, or—if you are
a fast brusher and a slow reader—
the time it takes to read this
column. If your hair is dry, choose
your shampoo to help correct this
condition. A few hot oil shampoos,
given to yourself or gotten at your
pet beauty shop, will work minor
miracles.
If your hair is faded in color, or
going gray on you, don’t be afraid
to try a good hair coloring. Put
yourself in the hands of a com
petent beauty operator for this, or
do it yourself at home. If you de
cide to do it yourself, be sure to
read before you work! Follow the
directions, and be sure to make the
tests as directed.
This ground work under way,
start thinking about a new hair
style. The trend in 1941 is toward
slightly shorter hair, with curls
worn up from the temples In a not
too-set manner. Experiment with
your hair until you find a style that
is both flattering and a part of your
personality. Don’t be afraid of a
change—for a change of pace adds
interest and allure!
While all this is going on, take
extra pains with your complexion.
If your hair Is dry, your skin may
be in the same condition. Cleanse
it thoroughly at night with a rich
cream, applied like a thick mask and
then massaged into your face with
an upward and outward motion.
Leave a little on overnight.
Next, look at your hands! Get
a good hand lotion and use it fre
quently. Use a few drops of oil on
your cuticle every night, to supple
ment the benefits of your weekly
manicure.
If your figure seems to have ac
quired new bulges and bumps, a
series of exercises are in order.
Meanwhile, let your first fashion
purchase be a good foundation gar
ment. There are few, if any, fami
nine forms divine which do not re
quire some sort of corset control.
All this is a good beginning for
the new you that is to greet the
winter season. It is a good start to
acquiring the charm and beauty that
should be yours.
What are your beauty problems?
Write: Marie Downing, Larieuse
Beauty Bureau, 3509 Lindell j
Blvd., St. Louis, Mo., and she will
be glad to answer them. Be
sure to enclose a self-addressed,
stamped envelope.
I
Ans; This boy of yours doesn’t
realize that you are actually in,
wfemt.... in fact he doesn’t give it
a thought. If he were at home
and could see that you need him,
he would make an effort to help
you no doubt. Don’t worry and
fret about it;....try to get help
from your local relief office or
some easy job that you can do
without over-exerting yourself.
| E. V.—Well I like to read your
column in the paper and I like to
have the paper come to me out of
town. You see it used to be my
home town and I still like to know
what’s going on. Tell me Sir if
will continue to hold my job after
my husband comes to ive with rne i
here?
Ans: Your work is satisfactory
in every respect and the man yon
are working for likes you lots....
I see no reason why you shouldn’t
hold your job. You are right in
wanting your husband to join you
for six months is too long to be
separated.

Woman Praises Mme.C.J.
Walker’s Preparations
* “I use Mme. C. J. Walker’s
preparations exclusively be
cause I get results from them
that I am unable to get from any
other preparation,” stated a well
known business woman the
other day.
The secret of the remarkable
success of Mme. C. J. Walker’s
preparations is in the fact that
they were blended by the late
Madam C. J. Walker to reach
certain definite conditions of the
hair, skin and scalp, and today,
after over thirty-five years on
the market, they are growing
increasingly popular, and not
withstanding the fact that the
Company has always refused to
reduce the price on these goods,
they are still in demand every
where.
$ Mme. C. J. Walker’s Glossine,
although more than thirty-five
years on the market, is still the
leader in its field. The reason
for this is because it not only
serves as a scalp oil, but it gives
the hair that silky sheen and
natural gloss that is the delight
of every woman.
Mme. C. J. Walker’s Brown
Face Powder is not just another
Face Powder, but is the result of
years of experimenting to pro
duce the perfect blend to impart
a velvetlike softness and at the
same time cooling and refresh
ing. Just the thing for these hot
days.
The Mme. C. J. Walker’s won
derful preparations are sold by
Walker Beauticians and Drug
Stores everywhere, or you can
