This Week In Religion and Thought BY ROBT. L. MOODY . BE PREPARED “I have all the education I need because, Negroes cant use their knowledge. I can read, write and spell a little and that’s enough for me.” These were the words of a new comer to Omaha when told of Adult Opportunity Classes. At, first glance this appears to be merely a naive statement by an ignorant person. But the spirit of the idea seems _ to influence many of our young people who have finished high school or those who are yet attending school. We do not wish to be like Pol lyanna and believe that every thing is well and good. We must admit the facts. It is true that Negroes have been and yet suffer discrimination in almost every trade or profession. This is sur-* ely very undemocratic. But giv ing up in despair is not the solu tion to our problems. While we fight for a place in a real democratic world, we must constantly study and prepare our selves for the realization of our hopes. The time has come when; women are required to be trained for maid service and common lab orers are expected to be literate. If the Negroes expect to survive as a race, they must intelligently fight for their opportunities, but they must also be prepared to u.*e them when they materialize. We do not hurt the other races by our willful ignorance and indif ference. We merely give .him the excuse to set us aside and fin ally we will be victims of our own folly. lililtllilliiillllilllillllillllKlil* 1301 N. 24th St. WE. 4737 Metropolitan Produce Co.
