For Pie Plant Lovers "-By Frances Lee Barton —* ABOUT this time of year mil lions of “pie plant” or rhubarb lovers renew their acquaintance with this delic ious vegetable. Strawberry lov ers are also seeking new ways to enjoy this seasonable berry. Here is a recipe where both are com bined into a dessert that Is both seasonable and delightful: Rhubarb and Strawberry Tapioca 4 tablespoons quick • cooking tapioca; % cup sugar; teaspoon salt; 2*4 cups rhubarb juice and water; 1% cups cooked sweetened rhubarb, drained; cups ffesh strawberries, halved. Combine tapioca, sugar, salt, and rhubarb juice and water in sauce pan and mix well. Bring mixture quickly to a full boil over direct heat, stirring constantly. Remove from fire. (Mixture will be thin. Do not overcook.) Fold in rhubarb and strawberries. Cool, stirring occasionally — mixture thickens as it cools. Chill. Pile lightly in sherbet glasses. Garnish with whole berries. Serves 8. For 1 Vi cups cooked, sweetened rhubarb, cut about 1 pound red stalked rhubarb in 1-inch pieces; add 1 cup sugar and % cup water and cook 5 minutes. Cool. Gal lagher, president of Talladega Co lege, Talladega, Ala., will be on< of the principal speakers at th< 32nd annaul conference of the N AACP. in Houston, Tex., on Thurs day evening, June 26, 1941. Dr. Gallagher, as one of the tw< main speakers on that evening which will be devoted to the pro blems of youth, will talk on equal ity in education. The other speal er will be Madison S.
