WHAT IS TALK
WORTH?
(by Chailes Sldzle)
Some men are paid a dollar a
minute for their speeches because
they’ve taken time to think them
through, but there are lots of oth
ers who can’t make a cent a day
that way, because they spend their
time hollering for “free speech.”
It has often been said that talk
is cheap; but it is altogether a
question as to who does the talk
ing. As a mater of fact, what a
man is means more than what he
says, for it is a man’s character
which determines the value of his
speech. This implies that the
value of men’s word vary.
In this respect men are divided
into three classes. Men of the |
first class have their words taken

at par. They mean precisely what
they say. Of this type of man it
has been said: “'His word is as
good as his bond ” Men of the se
cond class have their words taken
at a premium. Such men are us
ually slow to speak- Their words
are few. But when they promise
one rests assured that ordinarily
they will do more than has been
asked. The words of the men of
the third class are always discount
ed
And so, it often happens that ex
actly the same words, spoken by
different men.me an very differ
ent things. It’s because the men
are different. Therefore, we place
a different value upon what they
say—at par, below par, above par
—that’s our estsimate of the same
words spoken by three different
men.
It is rather curious that while
most of us flatter ourselves that
we cannot be fooled by the other
fellow, few of us seem to realise
that we cannot fool others. It
does not take men very long to
form a proper estimate of our real
value. Everybody soon knows
whether oiir words are to be plac
ed at par, at a premium or at a
discount. Therefore, let’s quit
trying to fool one another. It does
not pay. It is a waste of time and
energy.
What are your words Worth —
how much do they weigh?

M. D. L.— During the Xmas
holidays 1 went home to visit my
parents. While there my boy
lriend proposed marriage to me.
Now mother doesn't particularly
care for him for no reason at all
but his family likes me. Should
I accept this proposal of marriage
as I am terribly in love with him ?
Ansi Love comes first. You
have reached the age of 24 and
you seem to know your own mind.
Your mother will become recon
ciled to the fact of your marriage
—although she dislikes the idea of
ycur marrying anyone. She does
not have anything in particular a
gainst the young man—else she
would try to show you some of
his faults.
R. A.—I am employed as a ser
vant girl and 1 do not work out
half day. Sometimes the woman
pouts for weeks at a time and 1
don’t know why. I work about an
hour and a half over each day to
try to make things measure up
right. Tell me what to do as I
am dissatisfied? If 1 am in th •
wrong don’t be easy on me?
Ans: There isn’t any girl who
could do a whole days work in
only a half day each day in the
week. You may get by with it
occasionally but you must work
longer hours if you get the amount
of work done that she expects
from you. It is my suggestion
that you register at the agencies
and find you another job. Hold
on to this one until you can do
better.
D. G- H.—My husband says he
wants me to take the children and
go home for a few months. Now
he makes $35 per week and he is
running around until all hours of
the night and has our bills in a de
plorable condition. Is it wise for
me to go? I do not want to
leave ?
Ans: Of course you don’t.
Your place is right there with
your husband and he should real
ize it too. Before you will ever
get on your feet again, he is going
to have to stop his running around
and spending every cent he makes
on the outside. Talk things over
with him right now—your mother
and father do not want you home
with them, as they too realize your
place is With your husband.
******
C. B. V.—We have planned to
build us a house this spring and I
wish to know if we will be success
ful in our plans?
Ans: It looks as if you two will
be in a position to proceed with
this building this year. Continue
to work—both of you—lay away
every cent that you can because
you must economize in order to
get this home built. .
A R. B.—Please tell me how 1
may gain my husband’s love so j
he will kiss me before leaving
home and etc? Is there any
hopes ?
Ans: That’s a job that will'
take time to accomplish. By your |
own love and devotion, and by I
keeping yourself looking attract*
ive to all men—it is only natural
that you will appeal to your hus
band- Some wives forget all a
bout their personal appearances
and habits once they marry. This
is a mistake. Look your best al
ways, and when you feel the urge
to be kissed—start kissing—he i‘
like it.
******
•
A. Y.—My husband and I want
to go back to St. Louis in 'h,J
spring as we aren’t doing so good
here. Tell me what you think
will be best for us as well as my
daughter ?
Ans: I have reason to believe
that all three of you will get work
before spring and will postpone

GAS!
For years Omaha has had the cheapest

costs have been reduced again with the
introduction of RICHER GAS in Omaha.
The new gas will save Omaha users
approximately $130,000 in 1941. This
means that gas cooking, gas refrigera

heating is now 9% cheaper than ever
before.
