NINETEEN FORTY
ONE
(by Wm. Henry Huff for ANP)
We welcome nineteen fbrty one
In the fold of years—
Her rising and her setting sun
Her smiles, but not her tears.
We pray that she will usher peace
Into a troubled world;
That all hostilities will cease
And giofcd will be unfurl’d.
A ROLLICKING NEW
YEAR’S FIESTA
(by Arden H. Duane for ANP)
—.-♦♦_
I, for one, love to start the New
Year with a jolly good party! A party
with gay decorations and unique cos
tumes and a happy atmosphere.
This year is to be a bright and col
orful color scheme—green, blue, red
and yellow. Overhead streamers of
bright colors should swing in parallel
rows. Crepe paper streamers two in
ches wide may be purchased all ready
to be put in place. Cut five inch circles
of metallic paper in bright (colors
gold, silver, red, green and blue. Paste
back to back with a string between
and huspend well below the streamers.
In the center iof the room |>r wherever
they will be most effective and attrac
tive add a great big bunch of balloons
of all sorts of bright colors.
Chandlier—To a strip of cardboard
long enough to go around the glass
globe, attach five inch wide strips of
colored crepe paper. Allow tp hang
straight down eighteen inches or more
according to size of globe and the
height of room. Finish around top
with colored metallic paper circles.
Hold lower ends of streamers in place
with overlapping circles.
Side Lights—Trim side lights with
“domino masks” made of two metallic
paper circles 'overlapping about one
third of the way. Cut out eyes. Re
inforce ion the back with wire held in
place with gummed tape. Leave ends
to fasten around the base1 of the elec
tric fixture.
Posts—Wrap posts with one wire
i
I
band of color (use different colors for
each post.) Trim with rows of metal
lic circles at top and masks made like
those for the side lights.
Doorway—Just to put everyone
in high spirits, hang rows of hangling
bells in all doorways, low enough so
that no one can pass without setting
them ringing merrily. A shiny black ;
cardboard silhouette of a top hat and
cane may complete the decoration.
Party Table—Instead 'of a table
cloth, cover the table with wide bands
of crepe paper. Stitch the twenty inch
width of different colors togethers so
that the bands of color go across the
table and hang nearly to the floor.
Decorate with circles of metallic paper1
such as was used for the hall decorat
ion.
Centerpiece, New Year’s Clock —
Cover ends 'of a round hat box with
white mat stock and the side with met
allic paper. Draw numerals and hands
points to twelve o’clock with India ink.
Make two small masks similar to those
made fpr the side lights decorations
(three inch circles). Fasten them as if
playing hide and seek with one another
to opposite sides of the clock. The girl
has crepe paper hair bow and the boy
a bow tie. Place the clock on a large
mat covered with gold paper. When
the table is set, stand long New Year’s
horns in rows on either side of the
clock centerpiece and arrange a semi
circle of monkey hat favors in front of
the centerpiece between the horns. You
can buy these silly little hats ready
made with elastics attached |pr you
may make them of crepe paper and
cardboard. Trim them in any way you
like— the funnier the better.

A Prominent Business
Woman Praises Mme.C.J.
Walker’s Preparations
* “I use Mme. C. J. Walker’s
preparations exclusively be
cause I get results from them
that I am unable to get from any
other preparation," stated a well
known business woman the
other day.
The secret of the remarkable
success of Mme. C. J. Walker’s
preparations is in the fact that
they were blended by the late i
Madam C. J. Walker to reach j
certain definite conditions of the I
hair, skin and scalp, and today,
after over thirty-five years on
the market, they are growing
increasingly popular, and not
withstanding the fact that the
Company has always refused to
reduce the price on these goods,
they are still in demand every
where. (
9 Mme. C. J. Walker’s Glossine,
although more than thirty-five
years on the market, is still the
leader in its field. The reason
for this is because it not only
serves as a scalp oil, but it gives
the hair that silky sheen and
natural gloss that is the delight
of every woman.
Mme. C. J. Walker’s Brown
Face Powder ip not just another
Face Powder, but is the result of
years of experimenting to pro
duce the perfect blend to impart
a velvetlike softness and at the
same time cooling and refresh
ing. Just the thing for these hot
days.
The Mme. C. J. Walker’s won
derful preparations are sold by
Walker Beauticians and Drug
Stores everywhere, or you can
