It is well that both branches of con gress and the chief executive are of the same political faith. How ever, regardless as to politics, race creed or color, we shall all strive for national unity. We must make a fight for our people to have a place in the building of a strong national defense. Wb shall all have to sacrifice. Taxes are bound to rise (higher and higher. The national debt will continue to increase. All groups in America must sharo in bearing? the burden. But the American way must pre vail” In Louisville, according to L Willie Cole, editor of the Leader, there is no bitterness after elect ions. Negroes there were impres sed with two housing projects and relief. But Tuesday’s vote showed the race is part and parcel of the two-party system. However, ^f the Negro is going to reap full benefits from the two party sys tem he “should become practical where the race is concerned, must bo more wisely and strongly led, and his economic, political and moral foundation more soundly and solidly built.” The Negro group still remains the test of a “strong, determined confident, united democracy," op ined Dr. Emmett J Scott, Wash ington, Republican publicity dir ector who pointed out the race must still fight against discrimin ation and for full citizenship rights. “It was for these things Wendell Willkie was willing to pledge himself,” he asserted, ‘‘and it is for these things all time tend.’’ Virginians, sharing in the New Deal’g social gains, have been heartened by Roosevelt’s reflect ion, according to P. B. Young, sr., editor of the Norfolk Journal and Guide, who added, “There are no indications in this area that the outcome of the election will have other than a stabilizing effect up on business( industry and agricul ture. if the people unite in their support of the President in his efforts to continue recovery and keep the nation at peace.” More Negro Texans voted in thig election than even before with between 60 and 66 percent for Roosevelt, said Carter Wesley of the Houston Informer, who assert ed, “I believe that the Negroes nationally have grown in status politically by their work in the election- I think that the future course of the Negro slhould be a long the same lines that it took KABE'S BUFFET for Popular Brand* of BEER and LIQUORS 2229 Lake Street —Always a place to park— COAL lowest Coal Prices AND LOOK NO EXTRA CHARGES ON HALF TON 2108 Lake St. AT. 7225 BUY YOUR— POULTRY AT THE NEBRASKA PRODUCE Get the Best in Quality at the Lowest Price NEBRASKA PRODUCE 2204-6 NORTH 24th ST. A. Scott of the Atlanta Daily World, and are thowint? a tremendous seems to be the concensus of rac ial opinion that President Roose velt now has no further political ambitions and will show elss res traint in tackling question that are vital( not only to the 9.000, 000 Negroes in the South, but to this section as a whol'3. They are hoping the President will now see through the anti-lynching bill and will make more secure the politic al and economic position of the race in the South where his party is in power.” Most cynical was C .A. Frank lin of the Kansas City Call, who said Kansas City, Mo., Negroes were so interested. in electing white Democrats they did not cast their full vote for the two colored f Republicans on the ballot . “Election results hereabouts are past< comprehension anyway,” he opined. “To the west of the state line, in Kansas .the voters went strongly Republican for preg ident and then chose a Democrat for governor. In Missouri t,o the east of the state line it was the reverse, their vote going to the Democratic nominee for president yet .they favored the Republican for governor. Maybe Negroes have the same right to be illog ical as was the average voter. Ev idently ,this section needg a cam paign on educating Negroes how to get the most out of their bal lot.” NICK KENNY Speaking Radio Versus ASCAP Ih the Only War Tin Pan Alley Recognizes 1 (Reprinted from News release of ASCAP f*om N. Y. Daily Mirror) TIN PAN ALLEY! Where they are girding their loins for the bat tle of the Century! In this comer is Young Radio glaring across the ring at his ASCAP adversary, Old Music! The referee, who is going to find himself in the middle of a lot of wild iswings. is John Listen ing Public! There go?s the gong! Young Radio rushes out, leading with rnappy new Broadcast Music, In corporated, song by an unknown author. t)ld Music brushes off the youngster’s wild blows with a beautiful old melody by Carrie Jacobs Bond, titled "Love’s Old Sweet Song!” Both hit the refer ee and knock him dizzy. The vet eran then pounds Radio to the floor with a medley of Victor Her bert airs, the youngster taking the count. The referee rushes over to Old Music, raises the old fellow’s hand shouting ‘ The Winner.” and whis pers in the champ’s ear, “How a bout giving the kid a Jerome Kern number to bring him to?’’ Old Music obliges and young Radio comes to hig senses with a smile of delight on his face. The fight ers shake hands and go off arm in arm, realizing that they need each other too much to do any more fighting. That’s the way Tin Pan Alley visualizes the impending fight, set for Jan. 1. between the radio chains and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Pub lishers, known ASCAP. The squabble is over the new ASCAP contract, which wants more money for the sorvjs of its members than it bag bern getting. Many individual radio stations lave signed the new contract but he chains says “No.” They have nswered by forming their own >ub!ishing company, called “Broad •ast Music, Inc.,” the hit song of vhich is “Practice Makes Perfect” Unices they get together ASC AP will take all the songs of its members, including Irving Berlin, Jerome King, Victor Herbert num h^rs and every other known writ er off the air after January 1. ASCAP claims that it takes from five to fifteen years to create a sonigwriter. F}> requires tha*, much experience before he can write a song that will appeal to the publisher, the band leade^ the singer and the public, all at th-1 same time. When he can turn iut such a song, and proves it with Laxative With Three Important Features Three things most people went \ laxative to do are: act punctual v; act thoroughly; act gently. This one usually fills all three •equirements. bdings happy relief I’om constipation’s headach e, bil msness next morning if taken at '■‘dHmo by the directions. The way BLACK- DRAUGHT generally benefits users is mainly due to its chief ingredient, an “in testinal tonic laxative” which helps impart tone to lazy bowel muscles. The million of packages used prove BLACK-DRAUGHT’S m r it. It’s a purely vegetable medic ine. And economical too! 25 to 40 doses cost only 26c. | five numbers, he gets into AS 3 '.P Thus ASCAP claims to have evciv practical songwriter in the coun try signed up for the next ten years. The question is can radio fight these trained songsmiths with untrained songwriters? The public will give the answer. THE DOOR IS JUST ANOTHER DOOR BY MOST STANDARDS New York—’The door at No. 8 !
