TOWSEND CLUB NUMBER 11 Our Townsend Club Number 11, met Sunday October 27 in a SpCc iat meeting to celebrate the Sixth Anniversary of the founding of the Townsend National Recovery Plan Incorporated. Although our program was not carried out to tlho letter as previously planned, we really had a good one. and ev eryone seemed to have enjoyed SKIN UGHTENING SCIENTIFICALLY MEASURED < BY D. F. NEALON, 1 RESEARCH CHEMIST When a beauty cream has been growing ever more popular for forty years—when the users are so de k lighted with re sults that they buy ®more and more of "the cream—surely this seems to be proof enough of its goodness and Yet this is exactly the record made by NADINOLA Bleaching Cream and even so the sponsors wanted more proof—scientific proof of how well Nadinola lightens the skin, helps clear up blackheads and surface pim ples, softens and smoothes the skin texture. So they authorized me, sev eral years ago, to start tests under rigid scientific control, take photo graphs; in fact, to get the complete record of results under actual condi tions just as the cream is used. This completed study is now considered highly significant and, so far as I know, NADINOLA is the only cream of its kind ever to get scientific proof of its beautifying value. Method of Scientific Proof My research began with a thor ough study of medical literature found in libraries of leading medical colleges and in scientific journals. This search provided much authori tative opinion in support of the testi mony of enthusiastic users as to the results of NADINOLA’S medicated ingredients in lightening the skin and improving its attractiveness. The next step was to find a method of running actual tests on a group of subjects with the right apparatus for making and keeping accurate records of the results. First I built a studio for photographing each girl under fixed control, taking a picture before she began using NADINOLA fol lowed by other pictures during and after the treatment. Then I prepared a color chart which furnishes a way to measure the color value of the skin. This makes it possible to show positive lightening of the skin and to actually measure how much lighter the skin becomes from using NADI NOLA. Skin Color Measured in Photographs Six girls were chosen for the test, their age ranging from 17 to 27 years old. Each girl was given a package of NADINOLA Cream and told to fol low directions found in the package. Photographs were made at the be ginning and every two weeks after ward by a professional photographer. Each test covered the use of only one jar of NADINOLA Cream. At the end of the test, the color of the skin or, more exactly, its degree of light ness as shown in the first and in the final photographs —was measured on | a specially designed electro-photom eter. Thus, for the first time, the measurement of skin lightening was removed from guesswork and put 1 under strictly scientific standards. ( The results of these tests were ( positive and amazing. In the case of ( all six subjects the skin became meas urably lighter and more attractive. In addition, the careful daily exami- i nation of the skin of each subject showed other very important benefits. Pimples, Blackheads Removed The six subjects had a total of 164 pimples at the start of the tests. ' After six weeks’ use of Nadinola, 111 of them (60%) were found to have been removed without recourse to diet or internal medication. The effect of this removal was a gratify ing and almost unbelievable improve ment in the subjects’ appearance. This improvement was even more apparent to the eye than in the sworn “before and after” photographs. Five of the six subjects were found, at the beginning of the tests, to be troubled with blackheads. A careful count for these five subjects showed 88 blackheads in the skin at the be ginning of the experiments and 11 at the close. Of the 77 removed, only five were removed by finger pressure; the rest 1 of them disappearing without any squeezing out by the subject. The pressure removal, as a matter of fact, was done to demonstrate how the use of the cream acted to loosen and soften large, stubborn blackheads, thus permitting their removal by this method. Other Benefits Observed In addition to lightening the skin and aiding the removal of superficial blemishes and blackheads, other Denenrs irom rne use of Nadinola Cream were ob served. The skin became softer and smoother. Pores appeared to be re duced in size. The whole complexion seemed to be clean er, brighter and irAiinrroi* 1 aaItim i» - — As a matter of fact, though not scientific fact, it seemed to me that at the end of their six weeks’ treatment, all of the girls held their heads a little higher, walked a little straighter, laughed often and more heartily. Perhaps that can be accounted for by the added confidence and self-assurance which improved appearance brings. Who knows? It may be their tele phones now ring more often. Alovely complexion often is the cure for ills of the heart as well as of the mind ' and the body. themselves. Rev.
