Climaxing the most active per
iod in its history, members of the
Home and F'oreign Missionary So
ciety of the AME church attended
its quadrennial convention held
in Jacksonville, Fla., last week
and rejoiced over reports which
showed $72,000 raised for mission
work. Bishops and delegates from
every section of the country were
present as Mrs. Lucy M. Hughes
of Cameron, Texas, dynamic pres,
ident of the organization describ
during which she inspected the far
ed her 6,000 mile tour of Africa
flung mission outposts of the
church this summer. Mrs. Hughes
will be a candidate for Secretary
of Missions at the General AME
Conference to be held in Detroit
in 1940.
