M. service was opened by the choir. There was a healing service for the sick. Our pastor brought the message. Subject: Faith or Fail. Gen. 22-7 verse. The text was very well explained and everyone enjoyed the less-on. Also 2 out of town visiting minis ters. We had a very fiery service. Everyone welcome at all times. The Sunday school is asking the full cooperation of Parents and Guardians to see that the children go to Sunday school re gularly and on time, as the time for the big Sunday school Picnic is neap at hand. All children’s names must be on the class rolls to get tickets for ice cream at tho picnic. So you see it is very important that they make the classes. T.kto morning services were very good. Dr. J. A. Claybone was the speaker for the morning. He took his text from Rc<m. 10 chapter, 10 verse. His subject was “The Heart ami Brain.” Dr. Claybone is one of the best prepared men in the AME Church. He is an officer of high standing in the church board. Dr. Adams is still not able to take his regular place in his pul pit, but is able to take part in /the services. The sick of the church are: Sis ters Louise Strawther, Sister L. A, Garden and Sister S. M. C. Baker and Sister Addie Bivens. We were glad to see Brother W. E. Carter out again. There will be a very important meeting Tuesday July 11th. At this meeting some of the Trustees will be elected. It should be the duty of every church member to attend this church conference* The Stewards and Stewardess, will have a Pew Rally July 11th and Women’s Day will be July 30th. The women will make this a very interesting service. we were glau to see so many out if town visitors here for the Elks Convention. Many of those came to St. John for the morn ing service. The choir and some of the mem bership will go to Hillside next Sunday to help Rev, J. S. Williams in ihfis anniversary Service at 5 P. M. Many other choirs of the city will take part in these ser vices. --0O0— MT. MORIAH BAPTIST Rev. P. P. Jones, pastor F. Burroughs, reporter Attendance for the morning worship was very good and an excellent sermon was delivered by the pastor which I am sure was appreciated 'by all. In this sermon the needs of the physical, intellectual and spiri tual man were set forth. Evening worship was equally a? interesting. A short discourse and communion was the progam. The spirit ran high and like the Disciples we could truly say it was good for us bo be there. The Mortgage Burning Rally is still in progress and a number of persons have paid their pledges in full. All pledges are expected to bo paid by the last Sunday in July. Rev. an<} Mils. Jones were in Lincoln, Neb. all last week attend ing the Vacation School held at Mt. Zion Church. Rev. C. H. Nicks pastor. Mrs. Jones was an instruc tor. We are proud of Rev, and Mrs. Jones. They are always on the alert, keeping themselves pro~ pared. Such persons are needed always. Mrs. Lula Guess who underwent an operation a few weeks ago was present at the morning ser vice, Also Mr. and Mrs. Balti more. Hilson, pastor 28 and Docateur St. The services were very good on the hilltop Sunday with the Salem Baptist Church, with Congress de legates and pastor back fresh and bubbling over with inspiration. He spoke out of his soul, both morn ing and evening. The Sunday school was well attended and both Supt. Mr. Rosebtyigh andj Mrs. Liamberth, began giving out the Congress information. The BYPU was very lively, celebrating the president’s completion of 10 years of service. Mr. Cooper who also was a congress delegate. If any such recommendation contemplated may we respeytfully reauest it be held up until we can file with you formal protest against such appointment based on Mr. Heflin’s attitude in Scotts boro cases, defense of lynching, re puted membership in Ku Kiux Klan and his general attitude of intolerance and bigortry, particu larly so far as Negroes are con cerned.
