OF L, UNIONS TO LIFT COLOR BAR According to information receiv ed at the international headquar ters of the Brotherhood of Sleep ing Oar Porters, 217 West 125th Street New York City, from A. Phillip Randolph, International President, the Hollowing statement has been sent out to the Presi dents of national and international unions of the American Federa tion of Labor, by President Wil liam Green, urging A. F. of L. unions to eliminate the color bar as a result of a resolution adopted by the Houston, Texas convention of the A. F. of L., which waa submitted by Mr. Randolph and Mr. Milton P. Wdbster, lat Inter national Vice president of the Bro therhood. The statement reads: To Presidents of rational and International Unions. Dear Sir and Brother: The Convention of the American Federation of Labor which was held at Houston, Texan, last Oct ober, concurred in the intent of Resolution No. 9, reading as fol lows: “Resolved that this 68th An nual Convention, assembled in Houston, Texas go on record call ing upon all national and inter national unions and departments to eliminate the color bar and all fonms of discrimination which serve to exclude workers from membership on account of race or color; and, be it further. “Resolved that the President and Executive Council of the American Federation of labor call upon the conventions of national and international unions whose constitutions have color clauses and that practice discrimination against Negro workers, to create a committee to report on the ques- ( tion of the color bar and various ! The Annual Reception was held and a very interesting program presented. The result of the matron con test will be announced.
