If the Negro has not by usuages and customs of this state held slaves this court will not institute a new species of slavery, and de cree that he can do; and we think to hold Waves, would be to institute that to give the free Negro a right another and a dangerous species of slavery hitherto unknown. The free Negro cannot, in this countiy, base his right to hold slaves upon the principle of conquest.
