AVERAGE OMAHA TAX $41.00 Omaha's 1939 property tax levy of $37.80 per thousand, highest in several years, means a total di rect tax this year of $41 on every man. woman and child in Omaha, according to information prepar ed by W. L. Pierpoint president of the Association of Omaha Tax payers, for the Omaha Guide. The total 1939 levy on Omaha porperty for state, county, city and school purpopses is $9,136, 114.02. This figures does not include old ago assistance tax of $153,000 for Omaha per year, nor doe8 it include state gas tax of five cents per gallon (estimated to yield $1,400, 000 in Omaha per year), nor does it include annual registration fees of $290,000, wheel tax of $119,000 Jimmy Seay: “Give me time am I will Poppa ((at dinner) “Willie, yoi have reached for everything ii sight. Now stop it. Haven’t you j tongue ? ’’ Willie: “Sure, pop, but m; arm’s longer.' ' wot-a-man wot-a-man wot-a-max Good Evening Friends.— and many others taxes on Oj^ah ans reaches dizzy heights, Mr Pierpoint said. “In my opinion," Mr. Pierppoin declared “the 1939 property ta? $37.80 per thousands represent: the maximum amount than tha can be leived under present con ditions without diminishing re turns.” To levy more_ taxes in Omah: and Nebraska before good crop; return will only increase tax de linquency on homes and propertiec M.v Pierpoint asserted, and “create an insistent demand for new form: of taxes—the absence of which i: tho basis of the White Spot Cam pa:gn.” He pointed out that it is to the interest of even minoritj groups needing more money to pre servo at this tij-jye the patience and morale of the taxpayer ir Omaha and Nebraska. Officials and public employees can well afford to co-operate te this end, Mr. Pierppoint said, real izing full well that our taxpayers as a whole done their best, ofter at great sacrifice, in a time el national strain and streas, “The need of the hour,” Mr Pierppoint told readers of the Omaha Guide, “'s sustained bettei tav collection rather than the levy of more toxe«.” YOUNGEST MAYOR IN U. His ticket carried into office two city commissioners but the conservative slate won four of the six city commissioner posts to give that slate a majority in the council. The platform of the progressive slate was, “Build Boys Town,” while “Help Boys Town’’ was the slogan of the conservative ticket. For two weeks before the elect ion the 14 candidates for the seven elective political offices at Boys Town conducted spirited camp aigns. The entire group even took part in a political rally over an Omaha radio station (KOIL) two days before the election.
