freeze his brain and make him

An ex-Senator of the United
States, a colored man, Blanche K.
Bruco of Mississippi, was honored
by having created for him the
office of register of the treasury.
White members of St. George’s
Methodist Episcopal in Philadel
phia (1787) wanted to segregate
(ho Negro membership to a part
of tho church, Absalom Jones and
others chosirg not to be insulted

ciety. In this time this Society be
came affiliated with the Protest
ant Episcopal Church. From this
! developed St. Thomas’s Episcopal
Church opened for service July 17,
1794; and Absalom Jones became

of Monday, January 21, 1907, states
that Edward H. Morris, Negro
lawyer of Chicago, 111. has a prac
tice worth $20,000 a year.
In 1854, Dr. De Grasse, a Negro
was admitted as a member of the
Massachusetts Medical Society.
The first Negro to be gratned
a patent was Henry Blair, of Mary
land, who received official protect
ion for a corn harvester, 1834.
Booker T. Washington reached
Tuskegee in June 1881, July 4th.

state of Florida. United States
Senator Fletcher made tho motion
for him to practice law in the
above state.
The average Negro non-relief
farm operator (family) in Missi
ssippi who spends $289 for all
foods eats $70 worth of pork a
year and only $8 worth of other
meats.

Manila Bay, from the Olympia,
flag ship of Admiral Dewey, com
manding the American forecs on
the Asiatic station, during the

are being urged by Wilbur Jones,
executive chairman of the civic de
linquent tax collection campaign,
not to wait until, “the last minute
rush” to take advantage of the
state law cancelling interest on
back taxes. The deadline is Decem
ber 31.
“Now is the time to square your
tax account,” Mr. Jones told the
Omaha Guide. He reminded read
er* of this paper that delinquent
taxpapers daily are saving from 10
to 60 pe r cent by squaring their
accounts.
Mr. Jones announced that a
total of $714,092 in delinquent real
estato and personal taxes has been
collected towards the campaign’s
goal of $1,500,000. Even greater
success must be obtained by the
end of the year, he pointed out.
"With less than three months
until the daedline, uvery person
in Omaha should be sure hi* or
her tax account is paid up to date,”
Mr. Jones said. "This will be the
la*i opportunity taxpayer will
have to nap tha benefits of the
state law.”

The following amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska will be submitted to the electors of this State for approval o*|

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:
Section 1. That Section 7, Article XII, Constitution of the State of,
Nebraska is hereby repealed.
Sec 2. That at the general election in November, 1938, there shall/
be submitted to the electors of the State of Nebraska for their approval
or rejection the foregoing proposed repeal of Section 7, Article XII, Con
stitution of Nebraska in the following form:
"FOR repeal of Section 7, Article XII, Constitution of Nebraska,
fixing individual liability of stockholders in banking corporations or bank
ing institutions", and
“AGAINST repeal of Section 7, Article XIT, Constitution of Ne
braska, fixing individual liability of stockholders in banking corporation*
or banking institutions.”.^ .
