Results of The Tax Col
lection Campaign
Readers of the Omaha Guide
will be interested in up-to-date
results of the civ!c delinquent tax
collection campaign as reported by
Wilbur Jones, campaign executive
chairman, to the Omaha Guide. <
A total of $000,203.81 ii- de-<
linquent personal and real estate
taxes has been collected towards
the campaign goal of $1,500,000,
ably to the campaign by showing
current collections reacted favor
Mr. Jones said.
In addition, Mr. Jones said,
an increase of $345,605 for the
seven-month period ending Au
gust 1, over the same period in
193V. Payment of current taxes
for the January-July period total
led $4,715,859 as compared with
$4,370,164 last year.
Total delinquent collections for
July were $58,658, he said. Total
collection of deliquent taxes from
January to August includes an
item of $28,161 from county tax
foreclosure sources.
"While the total is affected by
an increase in levy for 1938 over
previous years, current collections
show a remarkable gain," Mr.
Jones said. ‘‘Only through sup
port of every person and firm in
Omaha will continued success be
possible.
Collection of current personal
and real estate taxes during July
totalled $986,889, a gain of $54,
751 over the same month in 1937.
‘‘Up to now,” Mr. Jones saul,
‘‘w0 have confined our campaign
activities pretty much to delin
quent personal taxes and we’re
going to continue that part of
our drive right on through to
the deadline gn December 31(” He
said that delinquent real estate
taxes will he the object of a con
eentrated effort starting Septem
ber 1.
Campaign sponsors obtained
figures from records of the As
sociation of Omaha taxpayers and
the county treasurers office.

l’at McBreen is a phys-ed in
structor employed on city recreat
ion at Ilanscoin Park. Besides be
ing a capable instructor, Pat po
ssesses many qualities that endear
him to his fellows. But he has
his limitations as he himself will
read'ly admit. He finds it a phy
sica 1 impossibility to pronounce
Polish names. This disability wor
ried him not a little until he hit
upon the idea of re-naming his
Polish friends; so young Mcniuski
became Slack Anderson, little
Stolinski was dubbed G'nger
Green, the Tylski youngster was
ordered to answere to the sobri
quet Billy Billge, and so on down
tho list. Very simple what!

MATTHEWS MILLARD
RECEIVE HUGE VOTE
OF APPROVAL
Omaha voters gave the “no pol
itics’ administration of the Metro
politan Utilities district a thump
ing vote of confidence Tuesday in
re-electing Directors Francis P.
Matthews and W. B. Millard, jr.
Technically, the two were merely
nominated, but as their names are
the only cnes that will appear
on the November ballot (barring
an independent candidacy) their
election seems certain.
