WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION MUSIC PROJECT Furnishing music for the im mensely popular city recreation street dances (several of which are held wreekly. presenting programs of varying types in public parks, noonday performances at the Court House and numerous other weekly engagements—all contribute to! make the WPA Colored orchestra an extemely busy, yet never com plaining band of musicians. Tho noonday concert at the Court House last Wenesay was one of exceptional interest. The Civic orchestra, in splendid form, as i8 its wont when under the in spired direction of state director Wm. Meyers, gave brilliant rendi tions of popular selections; Mary Jane France, Jenet Lloyd and Mary Hosier, WOW’s charming! and talented Three Maids and a Mike, pleasantly Garbled (Music Maestra Please” and *‘I Hadn’t Anyone Till You” to the evident enjoyment of the throng assem bld on the CourtHouse Plaza; Billy Meyers sang an old favorite ‘Play Gypsy, Sing Gypsy’ which was enthusiastically received and Mary Jane France united with Mr. Meyers in a very effective ren-1 dering of ‘‘Deep In My Heart” from the Student Prince. Results of The Tax Col lection Campaign Readers of the Omaha Guide will be interested in up-to-date results of the civ!c delinquent tax collection campaign as reported by Wilbur Jones, campaign executive chairman, to the Omaha Guide. < A total of $000,203.81 ii- de-< linquent personal and real estate taxes has been collected towards the campaign goal of $1,500,000, ably to the campaign by showing current collections reacted favor Mr. Jones said. In addition, Mr. Jones said, an increase of $345,605 for the seven-month period ending Au gust 1, over the same period in 193V. Payment of current taxes for the January-July period total led $4,715,859 as compared with $4,370,164 last year. Total delinquent collections for July were $58,658, he said. Total collection of deliquent taxes from January to August includes an item of $28,161 from county tax foreclosure sources. "While the total is affected by an increase in levy for 1938 over previous years, current collections show a remarkable gain," Mr. Jones said. ‘‘Only through sup port of every person and firm in Omaha will continued success be possible. Collection of current personal and real estate taxes during July totalled $986,889, a gain of $54, 751 over the same month in 1937. ‘‘Up to now,” Mr. Jones saul, ‘‘w0 have confined our campaign activities pretty much to delin quent personal taxes and we’re going to continue that part of our drive right on through to the deadline gn December 31(” He said that delinquent real estate taxes will he the object of a con eentrated effort starting Septem ber 1.
