In a plea to the various senators and congressmen for the consid. eration of his plan Atty. Prom the land he must feed; on the land he mast build; into the land he must dig for his wealth; on the land he must develop© and grow ; on the land he must fight and organi e his own life, for the race that does net control its own life.” 2 Women Have Solo Licenses; 1 A Private Pilot’s Washington July 20 (ANP)— Two colored women have solo or amateur flying licerBes and one has a private pilot’s license, it was revealed here last week. They aro the only Negro women licens ed as aviators in the nation. Miss Dorothy Darby of Pon piac. Mich., and Miss Lola Jones of Chicago are those with solo or amateur licensee. They require 10 hours of flying and do not permit the holders to take up passengers. Before the Joe Louis fight with Max Schmeling, Miss Darby flew with special greetings to the Brown Bomber from Detroit. Tho first and only colored avia trix with a private pilot’s license is Miss Willa iBrown of Chicago, who rece'ved her license in Juno At least 35 air hours are necessary to receive this rating, and the applicant must pass an exacting th*ce hour technical test, as well ns demonstrate the ability to per form such aerial feats as tailspins loops, ect., Miss Brown had close to 100 air hours and received a grade of 96, the highest mark in the class of 15 taking this test The other 14 applicants were white men. July 28 (ANP) —Five days after he was badly beaten and knocked out in a heavyweight fight with Obie Wal ker, of Atlanta, Oscar Jenkins who fought under the name ‘‘King Kong” died Monday night at the htatiem hospital in Fort Benning. Jenkins, widely known through the South, was kayoed in the 10th round during an all Negro card. Shortly after the fight ended Jin kins was rushed to the hospital when be failed tK> regainconacious nese and lingered in a coma until his death.
