SOCIAL c* „ 4 , r CLUBS AFFAIRS "d-C^-C-l-e-t-y" ORGANIZATIONS Quack Dinner Dance A Unique Affair Th*> Quack club, one of the most progressive clubs of the city, held its most beautiful and successful formal dinner dance on Monday evening, November 22nd at the Dreamland hall. The decorat;ons were very unique. The lights wore covered with shades of paper cur cd to represent chrysanthemums. The nut cups also were in the shape of small chrysanthemums. Yellow ard green was the color echem? carried throughout the af fair. Forty cne couples dined and danced to the music of the C;'y Service orchestra. A del cious three course turkey dinner was servnd; between courses, the music com mitheo presented a lovely musical program. Members of the muse interest group, directed by Mrs Lucy Mno Stamps- Britt, sang a ~ rbi'eoji''nsrmgement of “Trees.” Each girl carried a small tree, though the courtesy of Neisners which was veiy effective. The fol lowing members participated in the chorus: Mattie Sims, Bernice Mar shall, Ixicy Mae Britt, first so pranos; Dorothy Fry, Estelle Ro bertson; second sopranos; Bertha Crigbir, Thear's Taylor, LiUie Rosa and Jo Ann Peterson, Altos. Essie Porter, Estelle Robertson, Thonris Taylor, Lucy Mae Britt, Jonita Walker and Dorothy Beck, did an original clown act in cos turne directed by Dorothy Beck. This act consisted of a guitar duet by EritelBa Robertson and Essie Porter. A trio by Thearis Taylor, Estelle Rofbertson and Lucy Mae Britt and a dance number, “The Big Apple” by Zonita Walker and Dorothy Beck. Mr. William Kyles, a guest, song “The One Rose” and “Indian Ijovo Call.” The social comnvtitee of which Mrs. Doris JVuhnsom is chairman was responsible for this lovely so eial function. Other members of the committee are Mtottie Simms, Wills Jakes, Sarah Bradley, M l lw Bone, Clara Leonard, Ruth Burleson, Estelle Robertson, Thoa ria Taylor and Crete hen Badwin. Mias fono Lewis is president of this organization. MODERN ART CLUB GIVES gide Within the beautiful decorated home of Mrs. Lydia Rogers, 2418 North Twenty-first street, the Modem Art club entersined six of its members whose birthdays fell in the month of November, Min day evening. Those so honored were Mrs. W. L. Myers, Mrs. Lydia Rogers, Mrs. Morton, Mrs. Vassie Harrold, Mrs. M. Sterling and Mrs. H- L. Preston, all of whom were pesented birthday tokens from the cluftt. Fifty guests enjoyed an evening of bridge and Pokeno supported by a tasty menu. -o LEGION AUXILLIARY NO. 30, HONORED The American Legion Auxiliary No. 30 have been invited to attend the district convention of the dis trict organisation which convenes this month at the Benson Ameri can Legion hall. The official representatives se lected by the auxiliary and the duties they shall perform are as follows: Mrs. Lethia Bradley, will mak« the Past President’s report; Mrs. Lillian Wright- will lead the convention in the allegance to the flag, and Mrs. H. L. Preston, will serve as a member of the resolu tion committee. ©MAHANS CELEBRATE 18TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hicks cele brated their 18th wedding anniver sary November 18th at their home 2432 Blondo street. A four course duck dinner was served. The table was beautifully decorated and covers were laid for six. Those present at this affair were Mr- and Mrs. Harry Leland, Mrs. Lucille Wells. Mrs. B. Hill. JOHN IdTERARY CLUB STUDIES THE BIBLE I The St. John Literary club which meets at tho Althouse Beauty school each Monday evening, laun hed out into a drive to delve into tho mysteries of the Bible Monday ,-vening, lead by Mr. Edward Bruce who holds certificates in Religious Education. The lesson was discuss ed Monday evening, were based on three questions. Name the first eleven books of the Old Testament; What is religion and What is Chris tianity? The last two questions stimulated tho quartering of opinions which indeed made the class interesting. Visitors present were Mr. J, Westbrook McPherson. Mr. S. Edward Gilbert ami Miss Vera Chandler, former Otnahan, who is now secretary to the presi dent of Virginia State college'. Miss Chandler made a very inspirational talk in which she sounde'd a key i note in favor of the Nt'gro school, quote: ‘‘A colored school is where a j Negro can develop initiative, one | of the> factors necessary to sue- j cess.” Mr. McPherson, who is the pre sident; of the Omaha Council of the National Negro Congress, gave some very timely remarks in which he urge'd the young people to catch step withj the miliant and progres siye program, now being carrie'd on throughout the United States by the Youth Division of the National Negro Congress. ANNOUNCEMENT To create a greater interest in the Wednesday evening concerts by the Omaha Concert band, at the Urban League, opportunities will be given to any musicians, singers, or other performers, amateur or otherwise to appear on these pro -trams in the hope of encouraging and discovering new musical talent. Any person or groups interested in appearing on these programs please call Mr. George Bryant at the Urban League. There has been an increase in the attendance and we are hoping for an even greater one. The programs start at 8 o’clock promptly each Wednesday night, 'ome and hear them. Notes 105 Attend Boys and Girls Forum Tbo Boys and Girls forum held | on Sunday, November 28th at the YWCA was interesting and very worthwhile. Mrs. Herbert Wiggins talked with and to a group of 105 boys and girls about the problems that they are facing everyday. The method of finding out their problems were made known by the uso of a question box into whic'i each one present placed a question pertaining to some everyday pro blem with which they were con fronted. Miss Olive Willis, chairlady of tho forum, presided. Foster Good lett rendered a vocal solo. The General Education Commi tee met on November 30th and Mr Pulum, executive secretary of tb YWCA spoke to the group o Convention Action. Tho Ifobl y Group of the “Y’- wil begin Saturday December 4th n 3 p. m. Girls who are interested in developing their hobby or findin-* one are invited to come. The hobbies that are planned are sewing, scrapbook making. Crochet ing, knitting, music, -embroidery cooking and dramates. All girls from the age of 12 through 18 inclusive are invited to participate The executive board of the Col ored O’d Folks Homo met at the Home. Thursday evening, at 8 o’ clock. Esters who spent 13 years in Omaha, leaving in 1931 is now visiting Mr. and Mrs. Will iam Worker, 2825 No. 25th street. Mr. Esters who was quite active in the church and fraternal world while in our city- is now residing in Excelsor Sprngs. Mo., where he has been employed by the manage ment of the Excelsor Springs Golf Club for the past seven years.
