We are wondering whether John
Henry Lewis is anxious now to en
ter the heavyweight ranks.A
few weeks ago he absorbed a ter
rific beating from Isadore Gastan
aga, the Cuban heavyweight.
Lewis was bounced twice, in the
first round and dropped for the
nine count in the third. He man
aged to last the distance, but lost
the verdict by a wide margin. It
is interesting to note that despite
the fact that Gastanga kayoed

far from the top of the heavy

sidelight on the light heavyweight

Rural Schools To
.Aid in Sale of Seals
Nebraska children attending ru
ral schools will have an important
part in conducting the thirty-first
annual Christmas Seal Sale in their
respective communities by serving
again this year as ‘messengers' for
70 county school superintendents,
who are acting as rural Seal Sale
chairman.
When tne sale opens on Thanks
giving Day, Seals, together with a
letter, will be delivered by the
school children to homes in assign
ed districts. By this means, each
family In the community is given
an opportunity to buy Christmas
Seals and to aid the Nebraska Tu
berculosis Association’s drive to
bring health and happiness to all.
This year the town crier on the
Christmas Seal will ring a message
of thankfulness for what has been
accomplished in the cause of health.
1H0 will also ring from coast to
coast, the call for united work dur
ing the Seal Sale. “It seems fitting 1
that his call should be reinforced
by other bell music upon the oc J
casion of the opening of the Seal
Sale and the beginning of the holi
day season,’ Miss Alice. Marshall,
executive secretary of the Nebras
ka Tuberculosis Association, states.
Accordingly a teaching unit in
interpretive music has been sent to
every rural school teacher taking
part in the Seal Sale, and will be
used throughout the campaign on
programs given by the students.
This unit was prepared for the na
tional association by Mrs. Satis N.
Coleman of Columbia university,
New York City, and features
among other musical instruments,
bells and the art of bSll ringing.

Fills Order For
200 Negro Actors
While Central Casting Bureau
serves major motion picture stu
dios with many of their calls for
extra film players to be used in
large productions demanding
crowds for atmosphere scenes, such
as ‘Marco Polo,’ ‘Hurricane,’ ‘They
Won't Die,’ and the like, Holly
wood finds a unique and convenient
service in the Chudnow Artist
Agency, as Ben Carter supplies Ne
gro bit and feature players of high
er class to most of the larger stu
dios producing in Hollywood.
Interviewed this week in his new
ly decorated branch office in West
Temple where talent scouts bring
in new recruits whose acts must be
whipped into shape by Carter and
his associates, or rehearsals of con
tract players are held before stu
dio directors see them, Carter de
clared the current week a record
breaker for the employment of col
ored acts, feature actors and act
resses, and bit players in the mov
ies.
On his beautiful mahogany and
i ivory desk, set imposing in one
| corner of the studio-office, rested
orders calling for more than 200
j actors, singers, and dancers. They
came from Fox and Hal Roach
studios: Warner Brothers, Major,
Monogi-am, and Sol Lesser Produc
tion companies.
A healthy sign for the success of
the agency is the fact that all play
rs are required to join the Screen
Actors Guild before signing up for
picture work. This not only helps
the actor, Carter pointed out, but
it keeps up the standard of motion
picture performances up to the pu
blic demand for the best in its
screen fare.
*‘I am happy to say,” Carter be
gan, “that there is no jim crow in
motion picture work. Our players
must meet the same requirements
that other players meet. If anyone
thinks to the contrary, he simply
does not get into the film colony.
Our pny is set by the guild and we
do not have to haggle over costs
and wages, making bad feeling on
one hand, taking the artist’s mind
off his work on the other. I, myself
am a member of the guild and am
very proud of it,” he said. “We
conform strictly to all guild and
union regulations set forth for mo
tion picture players.”

New Star Looms
Likely to prove the most spectac
ular youthful personality to enter
films since Jeni LeGon was hailed
a new find by RKO, little Paul
White, aged 14, who came here 3
months ago from the New York
Theatre Guild where Carter picked
him for film work.
Paul dances, sings and acts, has
travelled with Ted Lewis and his
band as one of the celebrated en
tertainers ‘shadows,” and speaks
every dialect one hears around the
streets of Gotham.
Universal picked up this clever
boy as Carter displayed his wares,
gave him a trial in “Adventure’s
End ” later rewarded him with a
contract. 1
Paul’s little sister, Meredith, also
under Carter’s management, is no
small fry when it comes to screen
acting, herself. She. made her debut
.with credit in “You Can’t Have
Everything.”
Both the talented youngsters live
with their mother, Mrs. Mable Ho
ward, on North Benton Way, at
tend the public schools where Paul
rates excellent grades in Virgil
Junior high.

Beware Coughs
from common colds
That Hang On
No matter how many medicines
you have tried for your cough, chest
cold, or bronchial irritation, you can
get relief now with Creomulsion.
Serious trouble may be brewing and
you cannot afford to take a chance
with any remedy less potent than
Creomulsion, which goes right to
the seat of the trouble and aids na
ture to soothe and heal the inflamed
mucous membranes and to loosen
and expel the germ-laden phlegm.
Even if other remedies have failed,
don’t be discouraged, try Creomul
sion. Your druggist is authorized to
refund your money if you are not
thoroughly satisfied with the bene
fits obtained from the very first
bottle. Creomulsion is one word—not
two, and it has no hyphen in it.
Ask for it plainly, see that the name
on the bottle is Creomulsion, and
you’ll get the genuine product and
the relief you want. (Adv.)

I Love Your Neighbor
In business do you love your neighbor. Do you seek
to manage your affairs so you will reap double value
the value from a just and valid service rendered, and.
accruing good will which comes only if yOtflr motives are
right? The secotnd value is based on the first—costs less
but is worth far more. On the accumulation of the sett
ond value depends your chance to grow and expand.
Negro business needs more good will. It needs to
grow and expand. We urge Negro business men to render
servics at a profit, but ajso to love their neighbor.
