“Why is a beefsteak like a loco
motive?”
‘ Mah goodness man; ah kain’t

“Because it’s no good without it’s
tender.”
Cat or Dog
An English merchant was dining
with a Chinese Mandarin, when it
struck him that perhaps the dish
he had eaten so heartily might have
been stewed cats, for he heard that
they ate cats in China. The China
man didn’t know English, so his
guest anxiously pointing to the
dish inquired: ‘'Meow, meow?”
‘‘No, no,” he said. ‘Bow bow.”

Interesting Happening and
Activities in the World of Music
Tho oldest organ, perhaps in all
the world has been discovered at
Acquincurfl, a former Roman settle
ment, now a suburb of Budapest.
An attached tablet states that
the instrument was made in 228 A.
D. Its two wind chambers and fifty
two pipes have been renovated, and
it probably plays as well as ever.
Strangely enough, one row of pipes
was supplied with what are techni
cally known as tuning rings, which
modem organ builders have thou
ght to be a rectnt invention.
Edwin Arthur Kraft has cele
brated his thirtieth anniversary as
organist of Trinity Cathedral of
Cleveland, Ohio. On this occasion
the musical organizations of the
city united in paying homage to one
who has contributed so much to the
cultural life of the community.
Miss Emma Thursby, one of the
ost brilliant sopranos of the last
quarter of the last century who
died in 1931, is to have a memorial
in the form of a music building for
Moravian Seminary and college,
Bethlehem, Pa., founded in 1742 as
the first boarding school for girls
in the American colleges and where
Miss Thursby attended as a young
sudemt. The building is provided by
a gift of $125,000 from Miss Ina
L. Thursby, sister of the great
singer. Besdes its school uses, it
will serve as a civic center and a
place of rehearsal for the famous
Bach choir of Bethlehem.

YOU AND TODAY
In every rising of the sun
Think of your life as just begun.
The past has ceased and buried
deep
The yesterdays. There let them
sleep.
Concern yourself with but today.
Grasp it and teach it to obey
Your plan and will. Since time |
began
Today has been the friend of man.
You and today! A soul sublime
And the great heritage of time.
With God Himself to bind the twain
Go forth, brave heart! Attain!
Attain! I

October gave a party
And invited every tree
To send as many children
As she could conveniently.
They came by dozens and hundreds j
Each one so gaily dressed;
In red and brown or yellow,
A very happy guest.
Do you want to see the. party
When you go out to play?
Just watch the pretty leaves drop
down
This bright October day.
