At Boulder Dam
Two earth and rock replicas of
the largest pyramid in Egqpt
could be built with all tiho material
excavated to anchor the sides and
the bate of Boulder Dam.
A 1,000-ton ice berg could be
produced every 24 hours in the
rofigeration plant that kept the
Boulder Dam Concrete cool while
it was setting.
The setting of the concrete in
Boulder Dan generated so much
that the concrete would have
cracked and weakened the dam if
it were not cooled whjle it was un
der construction. Cold water was
run through 582 miles of one in
piping built right into the dam—
enough pipe would build three full
size replicas of the famous Eiffel
Tower.
Half a million loaves of bread
a day could bo baked with that
heat that was generated by the
setting concrete in Boulder Dam.
Boulder Dam weighs more than
the combined weight of every man
woman and child <n the United
States and Canada.
If Boulder Dam were built out
el' 100 pound blocks and on block
were laid every minute of the day
and night. The dam would have to
have been started when the Pil
grims landed to be completed today.
Read next week’s Guide for fur
her facts on Boulder Dam, the
greatest emginering feat in the
world. a

Keeping the Musical Memory Fresh
A garden of memories, especially
if they are musical, needs careful
culture and tending.
But the keeping of musical mem
ories fresh is not a very difficult
undertaking.
Most of us have learned a great
er or lesser reportoire. All of us
know the value of a collection of
numbers which we can perform on
request, without the music. But
if such selection are. imperfectly
remembered or perhaps, complete
ly forgotten, they can no longer
be played, or would ri k attempt
ing a performance, apt to break
down at any moment.
For the average player it is prob
able that if a composition has been
once well 1 crimed it can be retained
with only one or two repetitions a 1
month. (TO.is does not mean, of
course, that it would lx* ready for j
concert performance with only
that much preparaton.) And it is j
not difficult to average for neces
sary repetitions if only a lift!
system is applied.
Keep a small notebook on hand
in which you will list every com- ;
position you have ever memorized
(rind wish to retain). Follow the
titles with columns running ac
ross to the opposite page, and
headed by the intials of the mon
ths, almost two years of them on
the double page. Then in your re
view periods play as you please
afterwards making checks in the
proper spaces. Perhaps three each
month.
Of course, it is natural to "play
favorites” but the notebook pre
vents the loss or neglect of less fa
vored ones.

Health Beauty Charm
Keep Young1 and Beautiful
(By Althouse Beauty School)
To have a lovely complexion is
the goal which all women strive
to reach. The present dal mode of
living, with it’s out-of-door sports
and the strain of living in the
grimo and diit of city air is harm
ful to the complexion. In former
limes women had as many diver
sified interests so they had time to
take care of their complexion, with
home treatments. In this present
era, however, women hardly have,
the time to care for their comple
xions than ever before. The only
way to conteraet poor skin con
ditions Is to give the face a pro
fessional special cleansing skin
food to nourish it and a massage
to stimulate the circulation, and to
strengthen the muscles. There are,
of course, various kinds of fneinl
treatments for various skins. And
it is necessary to ahvay; determine
the condition of the skin and the
