V The Omaha Guidites } r ---r-s uThe Door of Expression” - - Edited by ‘UNCLE GIL’ ..' - v — 1 The Guidite World of Music i By Miss Ethel Jones | 1 _ _______ Johann Strauss, Jr. Although there are many beau tiful compositions written daily, none seem to survive ns long as those written by the famous old compsers. To become acquainted with these old masters thr*ugh books and study increases one in terest in their music two fold. Such a fact is true of Johann Strauss, jr., and his lovely waltzes, Johann was born in Vienna, Octo ber 5, 1825. He was the son of a successful composer and conduct or. In fact the father was one of the first to produce a waltz style com position which leaped into popular favor. Johann learned to play the violin despite his fathers objections to having him become a professional musician, and become a more noted conductor and a composer of great. ter renown than his father. Follow ing his fator’s death, he united his own and his father’s orchestra and after an extensive European tour and other engagements, including ten years of summer concert con ducting at a park in Petrograd, he became the conductor of court balls in Vienna, the same position in which his father had functioned. ‘‘The Waltz King,” as he was called visited the United States in 1872 and his concerts in Boston and New York were tremendous successes. Altoget’# r he wrote around five hundred compositions. His “Beau tiful Blue Danube,” “Roses from the South,” “Wine Woman and Song.” ‘‘A Thousand and One Nights,” ‘‘Artist’s Life,” and othei’s seem destined to hold permanent favor. Ot‘ his operettas, “Die Fie der matis” continues to be heard Jcfiann Straus died in Vienna, Juna 3, 1889. Although he died al most fifty1 years ago, his compos tions are heard every day on the stage radio or in our schools and dance orchestras. $5000 Reward Offered For Tenn. DOUBLE COLA IDEAL BOTTLING COMPANY WEbster 3043 _ Daily Care Protects Range Enamel Luster “The attractive enamel glass on a modem automatic gas range may be prolonged indefinitely if given proper daily care,” according to W. J. Barber, assistant to the gen. oral manager, Metropolitan Util ities District. “Enamel is a form of glass, but unlike table glass, is subject to greater heat and the stains frein foods which are spilled upon it. Fats and acids such as le. raon juict, vinegar and tomatoes stain the enamel readily if not re. moved-” To use a cold wet cloth upon the enamel when it is not will in time bring about a crazed or cracked surface, Mr. Barber advises. The food er l'.;u:d should be wiped off ot once with a dry cloth, then when the surface is cool, it may be el an, red with a mild soap and water. Abrasives and gritty cleansers re move the glaze and the enamel is no longer impervious to stains. When a hot dish of food is plac. ed upon enamel, moisture condens. e= and clouds the finish; even cold milk will leave a spot, which if not removed, will sour and dull the lusture. Just ns dishes must be washed after a meal, so should those parts of the modern gas range utilized in cooking, be cleaned. Top grates and burners may be brushed, then wiped with a clean cloth. When the broiler has been in operation, the drip pan should be washed in hot suds, or a very mild scouring pow. der applied to stubborn stains. Greaso and spilled food can be removed from oven linings with a dry cloth while the oven is still warm. | This prevents smoking But the stained parts should bo re. moved when the oven is cool ami washed with soap and water then dried well. A brown film around the oven door may be prevented by leaving tho door ajar after bilking so the natural moisture remaining from the steam of baked foods will es cape. |Fi?s© Gotirs© ■ In HAIK CULTURE jl’onsislfng of j Marcelling: > Klnsernnvingr l shampoo * Formula , Includlne !
