Rev j Banks spoke from the 25th chap ! ter of Matthews. The text was “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” The pastor left Sunday evening for Dallas, Texas, leaving the church in charge of Rev. J'. B. Rea gan of Salem Baptist church. BYPU opened at 6 p. m. with the president presiding. Four members of the Loving Five was with us and gave two numbers which were enjoyed by all. At 8 p. m. Last Sunday tihe outdoor session ,of BYPU held at Elmwood park was enjoyed by all. During the evening service three were baptized. Our pastor brought to us another soul stirring mess age. The subject of the lesson was “The Place of Religion in a Nation’s Life.” The lesson was beautifully review by Rev. M. K. Curry, jr., and many helpful thoughts were gleaned from the lesson. At 11:00 the pastor preached a very inspiring sermon from Ex. 25:1. The subject was “Religion, Its Peace and operation-” This sermon was full of inspiration and was enjoyed by all. At 8:00, Rev. M. K. Curry, jr., preached from the subject, “Contending for the Faith,’’ found in Judea 1. This was also a very impressive sermon. Two Youths Win Urban League Award New York, Aug: 26 (PFS)—The National Urban League has an nounced through its e xecutive secretary, Eugene Kinkle Jones, the awarding of two Fellowships of SI ,000 each for study in social work to William Y. Bell, jr., of New York, and Jlohn Caswell Smith, jr., of Philadelphia. Bell has been as signed to the Graduate School of the University of Pittsburgh, and Smith to the New York School of Social Work. Bell, graduate of Northwestern university, studied for one year in the School of Re ligion at Howard university, Wash ington, D. C. Smith, who is at pre sene head worker of the Wharton Settlement in Philadelphia, is a graduate of Springfield college. Since organization of the National Urban League in 1910, eighty-two Fellowships have been awarded to ! Negro students all oi whom have been engaged in welfare work in many sections of the country. The Fellowship Committee of the Na tional Unban League of which Miss Dorothy Straus is chairman is chairman, selected the successful candidates from a total of eighty snveh contestants.
