New York.During the early
part of last week, the sports
scribes who witnessed the work
outs of both Joe Ixruis and Tommy
Farr were of the opinion that both
men were not in the best possible
form.Farr’s condition they at
tributed to the fact that he had
not yet become acclimated and they
they thought the Bomber regards
the English contender so lightly
that the necessity for hard train
ing hadn’t occurred to him..the
writers were all unanimous in say
ing, however that Farr is easy to
hit and they feel that this fault
will lead to his downfall.
Tn training sessions, Louis ex
hibited no difficulty in g ^ttig away
from the left hinds thrown at him
by his hired help, though he seems
somewhat lethargis.Joe, how
ever, has never been mistaken for
greased Lightning so everything
must be okiy. Ted Broadrib, Farr’s
monitor saw Louis go through his
paces on Wednesday and stated
that he was frankly disappointed
lit his showing.Those at the
Louis camp kept the champion un
der cover and their fistic secrets
well in hand.Braddock was also
up and Louis shook his hand and
called him “champ”.Braddock
too was of the opinion that Louis
was way off form and warned him
about taking the Englishman too
lightly.
Jtames J. Johnston, the former
matchmaker for Madison Square
Garden, said that Bob Pastor, the
fleet-footed deer of the ring, would
kayo Farr in one round and that
Louis ought to be able to knock
him out in two frames.
Holma* Williams, Pittsburg wel
ter and stablemate of John Henry
Lewis, the light heavyweight boss
scored decisively when he won over
Paulie Walker, Trenton N- J. bat
tler at Madison Square Garden
last Thursday night.Lorenzo
Pack, who last week stopped Leroy
Haynes, knocked out Joe Lipps,
Georgia heavyweight, in the second
round at Philadelphia Wednesday
night.On the Williams-Walker
card, after three rounds of consider
able mauling, the referee called
tfce bout between Eddie Blunt and
Ustin Sirutis no contest, declaring
that both men wore not rying.
Bob Pastor and Jbhn Henry may
be matched in a twelve-raund bout
at Ebbett* Field this summer.
The bout was scheduled for the
Long Island Bawl, but since Jac
obs baa eased the Garden and Jbhn
ston is no longer in control the
match will have ta be staged at
the Brooklyn baH park.-Pastor
has already signed for the matoh
and as Greenlee is in town this
Week-end the matter may be set
tled.A tale of a run-around is
causing quite a talk in figkt cir
cles.They say that John Henry
Lewis is ducking Tiger Jfeck Fox
and that Joe Louis is ducking John
Henry.JFox has cleaned up ev
erything in his way, yet there
seems to be some difficulty in get
ting the matched signed.Green
lee and the managers claim that
colored fighters battling each other
won’t draw.
Ben Johnson took two first places
in the track meet held in London
last week and Cornelius J'ohnson
came through to take the high
jump event.J'ohnson won both
1000 and the 220 yard races and
placed third in the broad jump.
