SUMMER PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR HAIR I Summer Is hard mi the hair. We often make it worse by neglecting ; to wear liata during the long sum | mer days, leaving our crowning glory exposed to the searing suae of I old Sol for many lung hours. Swlm i mjng, tennis, golf and oilier summer sports are so Interesting that we i forget about tiie hair and scalp, until. In the fall, the cruel awaken ing conies. Hair, which had once been n source of pride and Joy. is unruly, dull and lifeless. Then we realize that It will take most of the winter to make It beautiful again. To save time and worry later, work out u routine for the enre of your hair during the summer, lie sure that It Is simple and suited to your requirements, then stick to It. Study your Imlr carefully, decide whether It Is dry or oily, whether the pin I is fluttering. Decide on the time of day most convenient for brushing, and the time of week that is most suitable for your shampoo. Have your schedule so well fitted Into your personal time-budget that It will come as naturally as lunch, even ou the sweltering days. Frequent Shampoo* Cleanliness is the basic require ment, of course. When Imlr Is Im mnculate, even the most casual coiffure will look becoming, for clean lustrous hair Is beautiful li itself. Dull, poorly kept Imlr Is a aaudlrnp which no woman should tolerate. Shnnipoo your hair ns often ns you find necessary. Don’t stick to the "one-week” or "ten-day” rules. They do not always apply. Your requirements may differ from those of your neighbor. During the sum mer you will certainly need to shampoo your Imlr more frequently . than In the winter. If you find that frequent shampooing In the summer ] over-stlmulntcs the oil glands, try an occasional dry shampoo, perhaps egg-white, or one of the good com- < merclul products. If you shampoo | Incorrectly and infrequently, seldom i Ming a hairbrush, you simply won’t t | hove the kind of hnlr that poets rave about. Oil Treatment Eesentlal Heat and dryness will demand an occasional oil treatment to keep your hnlr soft and lustrous. This is also a good emergency treatment, after a day at the bench, to replace natural oils, “gone with the wind." The oil treatment Is especially good If your hair Is too dry Just after a shampoo and has a tendency to become too oily later. Olive oil Is one of the oldest beauty preparations and Is still rec ognized ns nn effective and Inex pensive aid to parched scalps. Vig orous scalp massage should he con sidered an Important part of the oil treatment. Avoid using a high de gree of artificial heat In drying, especially when there Is a tendency toward dry scalp arid brittle hair. Oive yourself the treatment once each month, and the scalp will defy summer temperatures. Brushes and combs should be limnnculate. A thorough scrubbing in warm suds Is due them at least once a week. If possible, dry in the sun. for this will prolong the life of brushes and keep the combs, as well as brushes, sanitary. Keep your coiffure simple, so that It will take little of your time. Have It flattering to you even though it Is not the current “rage." Too iftcn we see a girl wearing nn un flattering hnlrdress Just because It s the fad. She would out-smart her sisters If she would stick to the tecoming thing — a simple style hat compliments her features. Ite nember. soft gleaming hnlr is »c>jitillful even when simply dressed. If you become bored with the •outine you have set for yvurself, nnke some changes. Try a new 'tirl, a new rinse or a new part, t is iinportnnt to keep yourself ntcrested In these things, for if on ure not, who will he? Conscientious care of the hair rill add Immeasurably to your ap learance and self-confidence. They ire well worth the time taken to ichlevs them. Don’t you think so} | Clarinda, la.
