Slater Pastor of Bethel AWE Church Council Bluffc, I.wa In the issue of April 10 of the Sou. hern Christian Recorder of the A ME. Church, the Rt. Rev. S. Ij. (Jreene, one of the bishops of our church, had a?) article enti led “Outworn Institutions of the AME Church . In this article the pood bishop claimed ffie hishoprie, ihe Yrresidinp shin. the missionary soeicly. the peneral officiary, the educa ionel ovstoui and ,^he itinerv the AMEOhureh was out of tune v'i h the time because they were archaic and too costly; and tha' because of these conditions (he church lost prestipe, and would continue todo so unless a reforms ion is affected soon. T. ast week the Rt Rev. IT. Y T<'o,7->. another bishop of my church, asked the financial board of f.ho AMR Church in session in Piladelnhia why the tVRimr AMR Rook Concern re mienkased ‘he Concern for $112 OHO when its, renurchnse was ™er,>rrw1 to the authorities for onto 4^1.000 These two subjects are mo- J memuous. 1 looked to my church ^ papers for an immediate full discussion of them. Hut up to date 1 have re ceived no men tion thereof. Why! When two powerfully influential bishops in the AMK Church feel com pelled to take the altitude that they have taken the eonsti.tt ency of the church expoetR its; official organs will give hem n full dismission without fiirtlm* unnecessary delay. Why the the silence? Is it because thev haven'* had time enough vet’ Were thev so stunned that thev hri'-"-- * -*** sufficiently rornv ' omt Are they not aonunintiofl wj h *' ' it indifference? Ts it NVhu^cver the cause may be for this “ominuous silence” it is hurtful to our great cause. If these two great prela.tes are in error then our official or gans should acquaint us with the facts. If they are fundamen tally right, then onr pa »ers should suppor* them and help lead the church in the proper solution of the great problems. For, .as T see it, one or two bishops cannot curt* our alls and bring recovery to the church. It will take (he best; in our nuist intelligent and loyal members i to do so. If these bishops are on the right track, and I believe and in fae.tj know they are there should he a call for a mil recovery ralfy.
