NEWS NOTES I -H. M. FUNCHES, EDITOR Bethel Church will resume her Sunday services in the church be ginning March 7th if the weather permits. The Busy Bees, of Bethel Church will raffle a cake on March 10th. This club is working under the pre sidency of Mrs. Eva Finlayson. Program, under the supervision of Mrs. Minnie Herndon, will be given at this time. CO-OPERATIVE CLUB The Co-operative club is making plans to purchase baby chicks to sell to its members and their fri ends. This club will handle gar den seed. Special meeting to for mulate these plans was held March | 11 CREDIT UNION The membership of the Federal Credit Union is steadily growing. Over $100 wa« loaned the past month. It boasts a capital stock of $200. Bethel Center gave a program March 4th at the Recreation Cen ter at 109 W. Broadway. The pro gram consisted of tap dance num bers, skits and music. A group of grade school children presented an operetta. Wedding bells will soon ring around the Bethel Center. Yep, there’s a reason for her smiles! Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown, Mr. Ben Turner and Norman Cave motored to Glen wood. Miss Odessa Johnson is ill in an Omaha hospital. Mr. Duke Turner visited in Oma ha Thursday. Mrs. Martha Wilson is expected to return to her home this week from the Mercy hospital. Her con dition is reported as being good Mrs- Ida Giles is in Omaha car ing for the daughter of Odessa Johnson- Miss Johnson recently suffered a nervous breakdown and is now confined in an Omaha hos pital. Mr. Hiro Nichols is gravely ill at his home. Mrs. Hughes of Tulsa, Okla., is visiting her sister,' Mrs. Jessie Nichols. Rev. J. H. Reynolds and family moved to Omaha Monday. Mrs. Mary Wilson is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reed. Mrs. Wilson was confined for many weeks in the Nursing Home on Fifith avenue. Cast was removed Saturday from the leg of Mr. Elijah Lane. The chicken dinner given by Cal vary church Thursday, Feb. 25th was a financial sucess. Norman Cave, who was forced to remain home the past week be cause of illnesg, has now returned to school. Mr. and Mrs- Wm. Brown and lit tle Junior White spent Sunday in Chicago, 111., returning to the city Monday. Mrs. Virginia Hall is recovering from a severe cold. Mrs. Leona Bradley left Wednes day for Denver, Colo. Mrs- Lillie Mills left Friday for a visit in Albuquerque, Mex. Re turning she will visit Oklahoma relatives Miss Tulseye Henderson writes that she is recovering from a re cent illness Little May Ida Bradley is stay ing with Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Scott during the absence of Mrs. Bradley, who is in Denver, Colo. Mrs. V. Hall is in receipt of a letter from a friend living in Pasa dena, California, who writes that Pasadena has had colder weather this winter than it has had in fifty one years. She states that she had nine ducks to freeze, and that her back yard was a mass of ice. Mrs. Wm- Smith is out after a short illness. Mrs. Katherine Ford, who is un dergoing X-ray treatment in Iowa City, believes she will be permitted to return to her home this week. Since she has been there she has had three teeth extracted. Mr. Frank Johnson of Omaha was in the city visiting relatives and friends. Miss Winona Spires celebrated her fifteenth birthday Thursday. Mrs. Sylvia Brown is suffering an attack of influenza. WORKMEN’S PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION Plan to attend the Wednesday meetings of the Workmen’s Pro tective Association at the Little Dane Hall, located at Broadway and Park avenue. The next meet ing will be March 10th. At a meeting held Febr. 24th, the following officers were elected: Albert Voss, president; R. Holly, vice president and C. Hanson, se cretjfrji-trerf Hirer; iGe/rge Black and Henry Rayner Relief Chairmen. This Association is working in the interest of the Working man— is fighting his cause. An employ ment agency will soon be started. Mr. Horace Goodlow, who was taken suddenly ill Sunday, Feb. 28th, is a patient in the Mercy hospital, where he is reported to bo resting. No operation has been performed as yet. Mrs. Gertrude Carbins buffer ed a bruised knee in a fall Friday. Mrs. Rosa Harris attended the funeral of Elder E. D. Roberson, of Omaha, Tuesday. A lovely re past was served by the hostess. The girls will give a St. Patrick Tea Sunday, Feb. 14th. at the home of Mrs. Alice Brown 20TH CENTURY The 20th Century Civic and Art club met at the home of Mrs. Juan ita. White on Feb. 25th. Plans are being made for the Federation in May. A delicious repast was served by the hostess, Mrs. White. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson. HARLEMITES The Harlemites met Sunday, Feb. 28th, with James Herndon BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THREE SQUARE GIRLS A monthly birthday party was given by the Three Square club for all members who had a birth day in February. To say that each ha)d a wonderful time is to put it mildly. Each member present took part in the program given. There were songs, tap numbers, waltzes, much whistling and dancing. Present were Misses Evelyn Ak ers, Omagean and Olivia Harvey, Virginia Lee Nevins, Marilouisc Teal, Winona Spires, Wilma and Geraldine Herndon, Mrfe- Min'nie Herndon and little Patsy and Wal Herndon. Little Billy Smith celebrated his fourth birthday Saturday, Feb. 20th. Because of the illness of mo ter, he was unable to have custom ary party. Andrew Fitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Then apply i oil to scalp with tips of fingers or a small piece of medicated cotton. When the scalp has been oiled, dip n turkish towel in hot water and wrap around the head. The steam ing process opens the pores of the scalp and permits the oil to pene trate more rapidly. To oil the hair take a dry cloth heat it and saturate it with a good hair oil. Hubbies who accompan ied them played po<’l and checkers. -o My Favorite Recipe VEGETABLE SALAD (By Mrs. Inez Smith) For six persons Cup diced green olives (plain) Three-fourth cup vinegar Vatsp. salt 3mi 1 diced cucumber 1 teacup diced celery 1 diced onion, size English walnut Mayonnaise 1 pkg. lemon Jello. Mix salt, onion, celery, green olive, cucumber together and sweet en to taste. To the three fourths cup vinegar add enough water to fill cup and Jello to which one cup of water has been added. Add above mixed ingredients plus a tiny bit of green coloring and put in refrigerator to set.
