To strengthen
the whole system
against the weakening effects of
the changes that take place in
MIDDLE LIFE
Good strength is always impor- (
tant, but it is of special importance
during the change
of life when the
body needs the
very best nourish- t
ment to fortify®
it against the 1
changes that are )
taking place. In
creased nervous v
irritability and the
distressing symp
toms that appear
in middle life all
need treatment
with a view of
making the worn
an as comfortable as possible.
To combat poor nourishment and
nervous fatigue, Cardui has real
usefulness because it is a bitter
tonic and stomachic which stimu
lates the appetite and increases the
amount of gastric juice. In this
way, digestion is aided, thus favor
ing more complete transformation
of food into living tissue, resulting
in improved nutrition and the con
sequent building up and strength
ening of the whole system.
Cardui is a liquid medicine, sold
in 9-ounce bottles, with full direc
tions for use.

LINCOLN NEWS
- - ■ « ■ i > i t tt* »■■**«•***
Lincoln, Feb. 11, ’37. The
Unicameral Legislature is mak
ing some progress although it
lias been slow going. For
many of the legislators are
new to the work, and then the
different committees are gett
ing acquainted with eacli oth
ers work that has been placed
before iheir eommittets. Ulnur
man Brady and enough mem
bers of the Appropriation com
mittee have consented to six
bills asked for by the Board of
Control. These bills are at
least some of tkeip will doubt
less cause some little duseussioti
|when brought to the floor of
the senate. Each of these six
bills are important factors con
nected with the state institu
tions. The first one being the
consolidation of the Milford
Soldiers home with that of the
soldiers home at Grand Island.
The 2nd bill asked that the
Milford home be used for the
care of senile patients such as
need only custodian care. The 1
3rd asked that a portion of the !
old soldiers pension for his j
maintenance be used to pay his
maintenance in the home. 4th
recommends the placing of
children who are wards of the
state into boarding home where
the cost of their maintenance
will not exceed $30 per month.
This refers to children who no
one cares to legally adopt. 5th
To change the prison law so
that the board of control can
change prison goods made here
in our prison with other prison
goods that we do not manu
facture in our prison. The 6th
Bill is to transfer the Indian
school at Genoa for mental dis
eases to a state penal farm.
One of the bills that seems to
be creating a great deal of disr
cussion is the child labor bill
that is being introduced by
Senator John Adams Jr., This
bill will take children under 18
years out of factories who at
the present only receive a few
dollars a week and replace
them with men who will be
paid a living wage.
| Two things that should meau
much to the colored citizens of
Omaha took place this past
week. One was the swearing
in of Mayor John Owens and
the confirming of Peter Meh
Iren as a, member of the Board
'of Education. John Owen in
'my judgement will contribute
!much to the general success of
I his race group in the city of
Omaha. Mayor Owen should
'not only have the support of
his councellors but should have
the combined support of every
intelligent and honest citizen
'of Omaha irrespective of church
affiliations or polities. The
Negro citizens now have a
friend on the school board that
will stand with them in help
ing place colored teachers in
the public schools. The thing
the writer as chairman of the
civic committee when a citizen
of Omaha with his committee
fought hard to do, but the best
the committee could get was
the buck paased from one offic
ia.l to the other, but Peter Me
hren wil lstop that buck when,
it ge,s to him, as a member of
the school board. Out of the
422 teachers employed in the
schools of Omaha it is a shame
and reflects d sgrace upon the
school board members ihat out
of the thousands of dollars,
I . i
'paid annually by colored citi
zens that not a cent goes into1
'the Negro treasure. So Liin
'colnitos send greetings and
good cheer to both Mayor
Owen and Mr. Peter Mehren.
