Say Negro Must Make
Choise of Communism
Or Christianity
Chicago, Jan. 30 (ANP)—Last
week in the famous Hyde Park
Baptist church a block from the
University of Chicago campus,
more than 1,200 white women we”e

School of Religion, Bishop college,
Marshall, Texas, that “within the
next en years he American will be
forced o choose Christianity and
Communism.”
The audience was made up of
representatives of every white Bap
tist church in Chicago and vicinity,
and was the annual meeting of the

Dean Smith discussed at length
the present underpay and unem
ployment which Negroes face in
Chicago and America generally
“The social injustices and slow
starvation with which Negroes are
familiar,” he said, “makes the Ne-|
gro a shining mark for all kinds ofj
radical propaganda.”
“Communists promise bewildered j
colored people friendship and help; j
certainly we who cad ourselves!
Christians dare not offer our Negro
neighbors anything ess than this.
If we follow Christ we will offer
much more.”

white women agreed to launch
study classes In their churches of
the American Negro “in the light of
Christian ideals and obligations.”
