Edward R. Burke . . . “as kindly as the twinkle in his eyes.”
Senator Burk© just returned1 from Maine where the hot
fight was in process between the democrats and republicans.
Sien. Burke says he made one speech while in Maine and that
speech was for the reflection of President Roosevelt. lie says
he differs in opinion on some issues with President Roosevi It
but without a doubt he dserves to be reelected and will have
Ids full support in the coming campaign. Sen. Burke expects
to make some speeches throughout the West in the interest of
President Roosevelt’s campaign.

Fight Over Filling
Council Vacancy
Cleveland, Sept. 26—(By Leon
Lewis for A. N. P.)—The vacancy
in the city council from the death
of Councilman John E. Hubbard,
Republican, of the 18th ward, may
precipitate another of those heat
ed tangles for which the present
Council is famous.
Councilman Leroy N. Bundy said
at the last council meeting that he
would lead a campaign to have
John M. Hubbard, 26, the deceas
ed councilman’s son, named to his
father’s place, but since the Re
publicans control only 15 of the
32 votes, the plan could not suc
ceed unless the Dems are split.
Council Democrats said that an
attempt would probably be made
to name John A. Cobbs, former
star debater at Western Reserve
university and Democratic candid
ate for the 18th ward councilman
in last year’s primaries, but to do
so would require the united sup
port of Democratic vote in the
council.
On several issues the Democrats
have not been united since a split
over jobs in the office of the city
clerk. And too many Democrats
have shown flashes of indepen
dence and failed to attend caucus
es thereby hampering the Demo
crats in putting over a majority
vote.
As a simple majority vote is re
quired to name a successor, under
the ruling laid down by Law Dir
ector Alfred Clum in the dispute
over counicl presidency, absences
of members of either party from
the council meeting could affect
the results.

If the old saying, “A woman’s

then some of us are paupers. But
we meed not remain in this state.
'Hie woman who has reached the

If it is true as the lute Will Ro-,

it is also true that wrinkles begin

she charmed the practical Mark

With modern scientific methods of

You must be free from constipa
tion to have a good, clear complex
ion.
| If not eliminated in due time, the
wastes of digestion produce poisons
and the skin must do more than its
share in helping to get rid of them.
So for a clear, healthy skin, re
member the importance of bowel

stipation, take Black-Draught — the
purely vegetable laxative. It brings
such refreshing relief from ordinary
constipation troubles, and tends to
leave the bowels acting regularly
