Address Abbe’ Wallace, P. O. Box—11, Atlanta, Georgia.
Mary—Please tell me why
my husband kids me and has
made suoh a sudden change in
the last few weeks?
Ans:—There appears to be
a girl that your husband sees
every day while at work end
he “kids” you along to try to
hide h's real feelings for her, j
The sudden change in him was
brought about by his deep in
terest for this other girl.
R. S.—Does my boy friend
love me or is he just trying to
get my money?
Ans:—He is mostly trying to
get your money, for he isn’t in
love with you—There appears
to be “another girl” that he is
also going with and her name
seems to he “Ann”—He isn’t
the least bit serious with either
one of you.
A. C.—Will I he successful to
get my g>rl friends eout in the
near future?
Ans.—Your girl friend is al
ready pretty sore about you not
getting her coat “out” for her.
You surely had better get your
nickles and dimes together and
get it her at least by the end
of this month or there will be
trouble between you.
II. If.—Please advise me what
to do as my mother doesn't
seem to treat me right.
Ans:—Your mother treats
you exactly right and lets you
go out more than you should
while going to sehool. You
don’t seem to he the least bit
(interested in your school work,
but you should make yourself
interested so you hurry and
finish —After you graduate
you’ll have plenty of time to
run around.
R. S.—Does my boy friend
feel that he has broken my
heart f
Ans:—No—lie is so in love
with this other girl that he will
soon forget you—He appears to
he very satisfied will her. Put
him out of your mind, and try
not to grieve over him any
more.
H. C.—Please tell me if you
think my wife is going to get
well! Is there any luck for me
in the future?
Ans:—Your wife certainly
will get well, for she is already
improving, and Will be able to
come home from the hospital
during the month of Jnauary
—A good job is indicated for
you before the coming of spring.
E. M. A.—Will 1 ever accom
plish my aim?
Ana:-—With more study and
practice on your mustc, you
will be able to accomplish your
aim which is to make a living
in the musical world — You’ll
have a successful future in this
work.
A. E. M.—Which of those
men are no good Do you see
me having any success any
time soon?
Ans:—Neither A. C. P., J. M.
H., or W. Y. are no good, and
if you’ll stick to them they’ll
prove to he your friend—You’ll
have some success during the
month of February, which will
be securing a job.
C. G. S.—For three years my
efforts have been in vain. Kind
ly tell me when I will succeed.
Ans-—You’ll never succeed
if you keep trying to make a
go of somelllng that, you know
you can't succeed in—make a
change to some other line of
business that has more possibil
ies—In the next three years
you’ll succeed enough to have
a small business of your own.
L. A.—I’m worried about my
daughter and I want to know
if she will get in jail or have
much trouble?
Ansi—No—She won’t get <n
jail or have any trouble. The
only thing the relief will do,
sinex; they found out your
daughter is working will be to
cut off your weekly income.
W. A. fj.—Do you think nrty
boy friend will ever give me a
present t
Ans:—TTe is planning to buy
you something nice just as he
told you, but he is waiting until
he can afford something that
you’ll appreciate and can keep
a long time—He would like very
much to make you happy.

California Negroes
Are Hard Hit; Over
Half On Relief
San Francisco, Calif., Jan. 18
—(ANP)—California’s Negroes
have been hard hit by the de
pression, with an estimated
52.000 of the state’s total 81,048
colored populaion, (according
to the 1930 census) on the relief
rolls. This is the information
given the Associated Negro
Press by Lawrence M. Monfort,
assistant state director division
of public relations of the Calif.
WPA. His figures, the latest ob
tainable, are for May of 1935.
To be more specific, the state
of the billion dollar motion pic
ture industry and the million
aire stars found 3,000 of the
10,529 farm population and
49.000 of the 70,619 city dwell
ers looking to federal and state
relief organizations for aid.
San Francisco and Les Angel
es were even harder hit. San
Francisco, with 3,803 in the city
proper and only a few more in
the country of that name, had
2,240 drawing relief while Los
Angeles, with 38,894 in the city
and a few hundred more in the
country, had an estimated 25,
780 getting aid.
State Helps Out
Direct federal relief was dis
continued here Dec. 1 ,but 100,
000 WPA jobs have been dis
tributed to the 283,332 cases on
relief. A ease, incidentally, in
cludes a family and the 283,332
eases represent 815,001 persons.
A total of 13,000 Negro famil
ies, composed of 52,000 persons
arc involved. In order to sup
plement the inadequate supply
of WPA jobs, California is
spending $2,000,000 monthly on
state funds until June. After
that, it jr not known what ar
rangements will be made.
According to Monfort, there
has been “no discrimination’'
in the administration of either
federal funds or \V PA jobs, and
these latter have been distri
buted to all who qua'ified. The
official states there is also no
separate wage scales ,and while
Negroes have been employed in
both skilled and unskilled
work, he has no data on their
numbers.
Monfort. also assorts no sep
arate Negro records have hren
kept on the number of FERA
social service workers, teachers
in educational and other pro
jects, no upon any FERA o.

population. Unlike the South
which is mainly a one crop sec

handicapped by the strictures
of plantation-owners, colored

Fruit growers are the ones hard

As in other cities where Ne

colored urban population of the
state has suffered. Because of i
the depression which forced
many wealthy familcis to let
their servants go, many domes

Negro population has also mov
