BUILD Your Own COMMUNITY By Patronizing Your Naborhood Stores MAXIE MILLER WRITES | (For the Literary Service Bureau) The Old Fool Idea of Marrying a Man to Reform Him—Man a Drunkard, a Gambler and a Se ducer—More Likely He Would Deform Her—Better Ttll Him No and Stick to It—Such a Man la Unfit for Any Woman to Marry. Maxie Miller: I am 18 and the boy that’s in love with me is 24. But this boy is bad. He drinks and gambles and he got another girl in trouble. He says if I mar ry him he will reform and do bet ter. His sister is my best girl friend and she is begging me to marry her brother and save him. I don’t love him, but I think I might learn to. What would you do?—Aurelia. Aurelia: You would be indeed foolish to marry this man. A drunkard, he would make life miserable. A gambler, he would waste his mon y and let you suf fer. A seducer, he is not to be depended upon. He would be al most certain to abandon you as he did the other girl. Maybe he in tends to do this anyway. There is little hope that you might re form him. It is more likely that he will deform you. What would I do? I would tell him no; and mean it—and stick to it—Maxie Mill r. This fact became known here Tuesday when Gus Burke, of Centreville, Thomas P. Harris, Mount Vernon and William II. Randall, of Falls Church were selected for jury service. These three will be among those to decide the fate of Mrs. Louise Carpenter and her daughter who are charged with arson. The two women were in dicted by a jury on which no Negroes were members, follow' ing which a special grand jury composed entirely of Negroes was summoned and the defend ants were again indicted. The case will be called Monday morning. •REVEALING* PAST/ PRESENT and fUTPRE •• 0/ ABCS'. WULACE— NwiqcaP mentjbei on mm JiwrruTjn Shoe ■ —* ■•»»—— B. B. U.—Please tell me what to do about my home af fairs for it is about to run me crazy. ► Ans: If you don’t insist that your EX-WIFE and her husband move out, you are likely to have a lot more trouble in your home. They aren’t satisfied living in just part of the house—They want it ALL. I advise you to move or either get them out of your house. H. R. T.—Please tell me if I can have any success in the business I have in mind to take up? Ans. A good CAFE is much needed in your section of the city. With the little room on the front of your house, it will save you the extra rent money you would have to put out. Tt would be well worth your time to open up this business. M .M. S.—Please tell me if my brother’s ease is hopeless? Ans: Indeed not — Just be cause he has been sick for nearly a year, that doesn’t mean that he won’t get well. Just as soon as he is physical ly able to have the operation the doctor prescribed, he’ll qtiickly REGAIN HIS HEALTH. B. O. S.—Do you think it would be a good idea for me to sell my farm and move to the city? Ans: If there is a possible ehanee for you to remain on the farm this winter, by all means do it. However, that will be the last crop you will gather for it is my impression that you’ll take a job in the city next year, and will get along much beter than you have been FARMING. G. H.—I would like to know if I will hear from the boy I met recently? Ans: This young man re ceived the letter you wrote him but he hasn’t had time to an swer it yet. He isn’t the type that becomes excited over girls, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t hear from him soon. M. L. D'.—I want to know if my sister will leave me a share of her insurance? Ans: All the money that your sister left has already been turned over to her hus band, and he will dispose of it the way he desires ,and you won’t receive any of it—How ever, a little later on, it seems to me that you will inherit a small sum of money from one of your relatives. N. M. H.—Should I go ahead and marry my boy friend? Ans: You know very well that your boy friend has de ceived you many times and you keep forgiving him for it —If you want to put up with tlits the rest of your life then GO AHEAD AND MARRY HIM. B. B. S.—’What is this trouble in my head and will it be very serious? Ans- The trouble you are suffering with appears to be an ABSCESS. It will affect your hearing for some time to come, but eventually it will clear up—You should be ex tremely careful and not catch cold while you have this trouble. V. A.—Please tell me some thing I can do to help my sist er without offending her ? Ans: I advise you just to leave her alone for that is what she had rather for you to do. Don’t tell her what you know about her husband for she has been aware all along of what he has been doing — She is trying to forget him now so don’t bring up the subject be fore her. IT. T.—My uncle wants to know if he will marry the small dark girl he has been going with? Ans: He can’t very well marry anyone as long as he has a wife that he is legally tied to now. If he wants to get married again he should dr voree his wife and he would N. Y. Jews Ac $50-a-Plate Dinner New York, Nov. 30—At the launching of a campaign here this week for the Federation of Jewish Charities, more than 1,000 persons sat down to a dinner for which they were charged $50 a plate. In coni' menting upon this event, Walt er White, secretary of the NAACP said: “The amount paid by these dinner guests just to start a campaign is more than the an nual budget of the NAACP. In one night our Jewish friends laid on the table for charity more money than the NAACP is able to collect in one year from all over the country for its national work in behalf of colored people everywhere. We are hoping that the example set by our Jewish friends will be followed on a smaller scale, of course, by colored people and their friends. More than ever it is becoming clearer that if the Negro is to be able to hold the ground he has won and con' tinue to fight against inequal ities, he must be willing to put up the money. Perhaps a series of benefit dinners could be held over the country at a much more modest charge per plate, lyith the dinner either being donated or costing very little. The difference could then be turned over to the NAACP for its fight against lynching, dis crimination .economic inequal' •ities ,and other items in its program.” CORRECTION It was stated in a recent issue of the Omaha Guide that the colored girl appearing in the Tech High Seinor play was the first in the history of Omaha High Schools. Through an in former we learned that Miss Vivian Foxall, a graduate of South High was a member of the senior play troup. Sd^ith Omaha Negik) youths are well represented in all sports, many musical activities and also plays. LEGAL NOTICE Notice of Administration in the County Court of Douglas County, Nebraska.
